Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Solanke says hi.

Isak was an expensive gamble that paid off.

The end.

Richarlison joined us in July 2022 for 50m plus 10m possible add ons - not cheap but PL proven and an Everton favourite whose fans thought we got him 'cheap'.

Isak joined Newcastle in August 2022

Maybe Spurs were worried Isak might turn out to be like our last striker from Spain the high scoring (in Spain) but flop at scoring for Spurs in PL ....... and that's why we went for the PL proven Richarlison,.

Clearly Isak has proved to be the better striker/goal scorer .with 20/20 hindsight ...... but its also clear nobody expected Richarlison's injury recod which has meant he's not been available for about 60% or so of matches since he joined, and we just have him scoring in about 10 successive games in the season before last to show what we hoped he might do at Spurs.

Buying players is always a risk - do as much research on the player before he's bought to minimise the risk, but its always a risk.

I suspect Newcastle fans think Isak is far better than they had dared hope for before they bought him.

Sadly Richarlison has been a huge disappointment against any measure.. Shit happens.

Depends on how many competitions we are in but given the attrition rate in the PL and MF being the most intense position on the floor, i'd still want another CAM or CM. If we could find a legit box to box player who could carry the creative load when Maddison can't play that would be perfect. Somebody like Stiller from Stuttgart.
All of what I posted is just a very simple base case that can be adjusted as needed.

I'm happy to endure some growing pains while Bergvall and Gray mature as a 1st choice midfield pairing. My confidence in them is supreme.

You expect us to make a 70m signing who arrives on 150k pw this summer then?

You won't answer that question directly tho will you? Because you know you don't think it will happen.
I think we should avoid making Tel permanent at the figure we have worked into the loan if that's the price Bayern are rigid on, and in the event we aren't getting Tel we theoretically should be able to spend that sort of money on a different player. I'd like to think we are going to go out and buy a £50-60m CM this summer because we clearly desperately need one, no matter who comes in or how many midfielders we play with it's painfully obvious Bissouma and Bentancur both need to go, Sarr, Bergvall and Gray are a good start but we need at least 2 senior CMs in the door in my opinion.

If Jonny Cardoso is one of them we need to go out and buy a player in the mould of Modric or Dembele, someone who can break a press with either incredibly technical ball control and dribbling or defence-splitting passing, we have a serious lack of brains in this team at the moment and that all stems from how workmanlike all our CMs are. I think Maddison is more of a VDV type player with more direct goals and final third assists in his locker, but having someone intelligent enough to feed him in smart positions would absolutely unlock him as a player.

It’s unlikely we get any better CDMs than Cardoso for 25m, especially with any meaningful experience, while we cycle out Bissouma and Bentancur.

It may sound weird me saying this given our league position, but I think we only need a couple of standout first team players. Given we average about a net spend £130m each summer window I think it’s possible.

Priority positions to my mind

RW
- Kulu is a work horse with technical ability, but not dribbly nor fast enough for RW. Better as an 8/10. The great thing about Kulu is he’s a box to box with technical ability
- Johnson scores goals getting on the end of crosses which is a skill in itself, but doesn’t do what RW are supposed to do ie. stretch the defence
- Yang is more a LW but in any event is far from ready for PL. needs a couple of years of loans (not just one year)
- Odobert is better on LW
- Moore is better on LW

Not sure how we’ve finished up with so many LW???

CM
Bissouma - not good enough. Sell
Sarr - he’s mobile but not good enough with the ball
Bentancur - decent 6/8 without being spectacular at either.
Gray - only had one game as a 6 so jury out.
Bergvall - will be a mainstay for many years to come. So brave.
Kulu - see above
Madders - I love him.

Signings
We need to manage squad numbers.

We need a backup for LCB if Davies goes or backup for RCB if Romero goes but Danzo has shown he’s ready to be in the first 11 so I don’t see a first teamer as a priority. Maybe Vuskovic is ready for the backup RCB role so this position isn’t an issue? Personally I think Vuskovic will go on loan in champo, at least for 6 months.

Selling Bissouma the money goes on Cardosa so that doesn’t impact nett spend. 1 out 1 in.

Might be controversial, I would sell Sarr before Bentancur to free up the squad place. He’s not good enough on the ball

I would keep Johnson as an impact sub as his goals could be useful if we are chasing a result late in the game. Not sure who we shift to free up a squad place for a top level RW?

If Richie goes this will impact our nett spend as we won’t get much for him. Unless we get David on a free?

This is the issue with judging players based on things like being Prem proven.

The fact Newcastle had to pay what they did in wages and transfer suggests the market knew Isak was a better player.

We can say shit happens as a way to accept it but shit seems to happen very often to us when we operate a wage bracket like the one Levynomics has us under.

I don't agree with all of your opinions, but I agree with some of them. I guess you expect Son to be sold this summer? Didn't see you write much about him. Do you see Odobert slipping in as the Son replacement? He seemed to look good hitting that curling left-footed shot while running in from the right last week...

Selling Sarr before Bentancur isn’t just controversial, it’s football suicide as well.

Ange doesn’t seem to want a settled midfield but Sarr is absolutely ready to play in a settled MF now. And he well explode when he does. Bentancur isn’t really a PL player imo anymore. Makes so many mistakes with the ball every single game

Liverpool's reaction to only winning the PL

People will say Levy spends but we all know it goes on potential. 3 Legit, ready-made stars in one window? Not the model these days.

Very good timing. I think Slot has been outstanding, Liverpool have clear issues in midfield as exposed by PSG and other players coming to the end. They need 5-6 big signings and a bit of an overhaul. Sounds like they might do it sadly. They for now have a decent team but you can see if they neglect it what would happen.

They probably lose Virgil this summer and maybe even Salah. Either of those 2 will be very tough to replace. A new team means a new rhythm and routine too. Chances are that luck with injuries runs out a bit as well.

VVD is the hardest to replace. They are heavily linked with Isak and other top forwards so they will cover Salah but VVD is unique in a way.

Funnily enough, I don't think Isak replaces Salah either but fully agree VVD is the spine and leadership of that whole squad. Their record without him ha always been brutal as well.

Even if they sign Bastoni, they aren't getting close to what they have imo.

If they get Isak and Mbuemo that would cover Salah and overall I think upgrade their front line. VVD is an issue however Liverpool’s main weakness is their midfield, they don’t have anyone who is exceptional there.

Isak and Mbuemo is already a HUGE transfer window. 200m on its own…

Then as you you’re saying, they still need CM and a LCB.

Really starting to look like the last dance this year.

which is likely why Klopp left when he did - it was obvious a big squad rebuild would be required, requiring big money and trying to replace most of his best key players. A challenge most managers either slip up on or find it takes 2or 3 years to do both finding 'the right' players as well as $'s
