Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

As a general rule of thumb, I'd like us to buy some players who we know have a track record of being decent over the years in some of the stronger leagues:

Douglas Luiz
Lautaro Martinez
Edmund Tapsoba
Hincapie
Frimpong
Raphael Leao (never happening)

We need a Romero replacement as it's clear as day he wants out, and with Dragusin's ACL it is even more critical we bolster CB.

We do need another leader, there is a good young core developing but leadership is amiss.

I dread to think what these pricks will do.

One thing I know for certain is they’ll stitch up the manager some way with the window like they always do.

Remember at the start of January or maybe end of December where Ange asked for more experienced players? He didn’t fucking get them did he?

They’ll be more we tried bullshit coming up guaranteed

If it's Ange then it will be more of the same because he's the yes man that Levy dreamed of. if it's a bigger name manager with more presence then he may try to appease him at least in his first window to make it seem like we're a serious club

I just watched the Klinsmann story... say what you want about Sugar but at least he tried to win. He just didn't know how and only had David Pleat advising him. But anyway, what a summer transfer window. Popescu, Dumitrescu, Klinsmann... I still think Popescu was one of the best defensive midfielders I've ever seen play the game. Reminded me a lot of the great Socrates. Never looked like he was doing anything quickly but was way ahead of the other 21 players on the field. Klinsmann was probably the best 9 in world football at the time and showed it. We won't talk about Dumitrescu. London was too much for him. Anyway, we couldn't build around them and 12 months later all three were gone.
Just one of several occasions where we were left scratching our heads why the club didn't build on something that had a lot of potential. We should have built on the teams we had in 1987, 1996, 2006, 2011, the Poch team. Every time we broke it up, sold our best players and took steps backwards instead.

When Poch, Conte and Mourinho were managers we had a team that could challenge for the title.

At the moment we simply don't have that team, we are in a rebuilding stage. Levy understands that, hence why he has the finger off the trigger. But he has his limits, and results need to improve asap.

in hindsight not so great, but at the time 60 mill for richarlison, capturing the much sought after Bissouma , and brining in high wage Persic was seen as quite a big deal

Big deals were made of them for sure. Perisic was very much otsude the usual recruitment profile.

Richarlison and Bissouma, I'm really not sure Conte's actions and lack of trust in either of them really gives me much of a sense that they were players he had explicitly asked for.

And we have discussed to death what happened with the LCB and RWB positions.

Conte and Mourinho had teams that's could challenge for top 4 not the title.

ENIC have never allowed for a wage structure to compete for the PL title. Poch and that squad massively over achieved the wage structure to compete for one but we never had the requisite depth to seriously do it. Leicester actually doing it was a miracle of nature that they went an entire season with no significant injuries to anyone important.

Guehi will be this summer's Eze and Neto

We'll end up plucking some random 17 year old out of the bundesliga/french league as the Romero replacement

Teams that could genuinely have challenged for a title ...

1981-84 ... No disrespect to Paul Miller but we were just a better centre back and a Jimmy Case type midfielder away.

Around 1988-90. Waddle and Gazza are there, Erik the Viking arrived, Lineker is coming soon. If we sign Mark Wright from Southampton and Paul Ince from West Ham so we get them and Liverpool/United don't we win the league in the early 1990s.

2010(ish) Redknapp with a very good team and the young lads on the way up, Kane etc. The notorious Saha/Nelson window. We go and get Adebayor in the January instead of waiting to the Summer and who knows?

2016 Poch team ... was probably good enough to win it with just a bit more rub of the green. That was the best Spurs team I have seen.

yeah lenglet was disaster, just a recent reoccurring theme. just like Rodon for Jose, or even worse, just not getting any LCB for Ange.
Having a left-footed CB in a 2-man CB-formation is not that much of a need as in 3-man CB formation. Liverpool have managed without one for many seasons now. Woolwich, Real M., Barca & Bayern M. also manage very well without one.
Lenglet, btw, is playing regularly at Atleti and Rodon is doing quite well at Leeds....
