Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He had an insane hype with the analytics community coming through as a teenager. Seemed like he was gonna be on the conveyor belt of Benfica talent that moves for big money. His form then fell off and he had some so-so loans.

Maybe he’s matured and put it all together a bit later than some do. His nickname is The Octopus because of his long legs that seem to come out of nowhere and nick the ball away.

The athletic article said multifunctional forward. LWS added the centre part. Tel will be replacing Richy as the rotation CF if everything goes to plan by the looks of it.

I've been wanting to get this off my chest since yesterday. More square pegs in round holes then. Why buy two experts for two positions when you can buy one who can "do a job" in both.

Part of the reason why our squad and transfer policy of recent times is awful.

I follow hotspur memories on twitter and they had highlights of a game under Redknapp. Not our greatest XI of all time. Gomes, Gallas, Dawson, Corluka, BAE, Jenas, Kranjcar, Sandro, Pienaar, Super Pav, Defoe. With Lennon, Palacios, Bassong, Woodgate, Crouch on the bench.

It was a team of players in approximately their mid twenties all bought and selected in positions they were required in. Why do we have to try and be so clever. Can't we just do what clubs nowadays like Villa and Newcastle do and buy players they actually need right now to do a job. It is fucking maddening our transfer policy of kids and making do.

........Financial landscape has changed massively since 2009 (and continues to do so every time a petro-sports-washing buyout happens).

Sure, we can do that; but with that comes the acceptance of par... i.e Just being content with being a solid team; duking it out to qualify for second tier European football every season and waiting for multiple fucks ups from the top bracket EPL clubs to give up a CL spot. (Villa & NuCastle aren't going away...... They have the 3rd & 1st richest owners in the league!)

Nothing wrong with that in comparison to our struggles this season of course; but if we want more than that, then we have to find ways/strategies to punch above our weight.

Think back to Poch... It wasn't off the rack, 26 year olds that propelled us...... It was:

Kane (Academy)
Eriksen 21 (when signed)
Dele 18 (when signed)
Dier 20 (when signed)
Lamela 21 (when signed)
Walker 19 (when signed)
Rose 17 (when signed)
Son 23 (when signed; many greeted his signing with "who?".)
Mason (Academy) - Crucial to Poch's 1st season.
Bentaleb (Academy) - Crucial to Poch's 1st season.

Sure, before Poch we also signed Lloris, Vert, Dembele; but similarly we signed Maddison, Solanke, Vicario, Bentancur, Biss of late too.

Yeah I don't know the answer to why we don't but my guess is we are seeing the difference between a model of DOF recruitment and recruiting for a manager.

DOF will recruit the best talent they can to fit the style of squad they want to build and ask the manager to make it work.

A manager will ask the Chairman to get him what he needs.

Just my 2pence tho. Really I have no fucking idea but the fact that our squad is permanently 2-3 positions short is fucking infuriating.

You’ve basically outlined our current plan….and the plan for the last 10/15 years!
