It is indeed.
We should never pass up the opportunity to bring in young talent though. They will compete amongst themselves to get their shot, which is exactly how you separate the Wheat from the chaff. If bringing this youngster in elevates the games of the likes of Donley or Devine then it's a good purchase, and he can be moved on himself if he doesn't make the grade.

It's no secret that I like our policy of bringing in young talent, there's nothing quite like seeing a youngster break through to excel. It's always better if it's "one of our own" of course, but I really don't care where that youngster comes from if I'm honest. If they're better than what we already have, that's better for the club, and that's all I really care about.

I do to be honest. I love every player that comes in and plays for the shirt but it makes it more special when the young players come from our academy. One of my favourite games last season was the game the 3 academy lads scored in the EL

All true, I was responding to a post that he was only worth 8m - and IMO he's worth far more than that whether we sell or keep him perhaps for less game time than previous seasons..
I mean, I could conceive of a world where he's not in Frank's plans, won't accept a move to Saudi, would be unhappy in a bench role here and the only way to solve the problem would be to sell him within Europe for a relatively small sum. That would be better than just tearing up his contract or keeping him here to sulk on the bench, financially and narratively speaking.

It's tough. You would hope Sonny would be a better soldier about it than that, but this is a very globally famous man whose years of athletic greatness are drawing short, that is always a challenging moment for any great player.

I'd love to believe he has more to give here as a regular starter, but that's my heart talking, not my head.

I suspect if Son wanted to go there would be a few european clubs happy to pay say 20m for him - much more than the 8m OP said he wasn't worth.

Ha that doesn't even make sense lol.

Why would you be persistent if there's no interest at all lol.

Do people think before they type ffs

and they sold Wan Bissaka for £50m.

and they sold Joachim Anderson last summer for £30m.

So I think, to conclude, Palace frequently sell their best players.
Yeah, this all comes from the long saga of Wilfried Zaha, which wasn't so much a tale of Palace's steely nerve as it was of Zaha's weakness for agreeing to five-year contracts with no release clause.

Eze has managed his future more wisely.

People would say the same for Kane but at least Kane managed to not scored in 3 major finals, so can't really play much of a tune on his violin. Zaha was in a trench of mediocrity for 13 years

I mean Kane should not have signed a six-year deal with no release clause in June 2018, that was a mistake and were I his agent I would have told him so at the time.

But bless his heart, the narrative in that moment was that the deal would smash the much-decried "wage structure" at Spurs that Kane knew was holding the club back. He spent his entire prime here trying to arm wrestle Levy into acting like the club Kane believed Tottenham could be. He and his brother were cannon fodder for their adversary in that fight though. It was a shame and a farce in the end, but no one should ever doubt how hard Harry Kane worked on and off the pitch to elevate this club.

I'm not really buying that.

He was apparently instrumental in Poch getting booted and the club pandered to his wishes by getting Mourinho in, then he basically went in a massive mood when hiring Nuno, and I expect Conte was brought into satisfy Kane again.
We were a far better club before Harry became a big time guy, even if his heart was in the right place.

Oh I think this stuff is 100% true and probably more dramatic behind the scenes than anybody realized or was willing to believe at the time.

Harry Kane is not a director of football, his ideas about HOW to push the club forward were as reactive and ill-considered as you'd expect of a 20-something whose only ever vocation was kicking a ball.

But the INTENT of all that behind the scenes struggle was to open Levy's wallet, full stop. Levy wanted the club small and Kane wanted the club big. Even if his preferred choices were misguided he was the unequivocal pro-Spurs good guy at every moment.

A healthy club would have gotten Kane onside with the vision for success or sold him for top dollar the moment they couldn't. We were the furthest thing from a healthy club in that period.

I think the tin-foil hat stuff with Levy needs to take a chill. It's the wrong thread.

So today we have had news to say we have lots of cash for signings we're in for mbeumo for 70m and interested in eze for 68m.

This club eh, always threatening to do something.

Come on Levy, make us proud.

:nunothumb:

The thing with Eze is, it’s either we pay the fee or they tell us to fuck off. It’s a very black and white situation imo. There’s interest that ends in us ultimately paying the fee, and then there’s interest that stops short of that. There’s no negotiating with Palace for him.

Good.

Makes it simple. Cough up bald cunt

"Harry Kane personally orchestrated multiple midseason sackings and dictated the club's manager for most of a decade": hard truths that serious-minded people need to accept and reckon with.

"Daniel Levy tries to cut corners and spend less money on the Tottenham squad": outrageous and baseless tinfoil hat stuff that's irresponsible to suggest.
