Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Solanke is on 88k pw without bonuses.

Eze will get 200k pw from the gooners. We’ve only ever paid Kane 200k pw and he’s the best striker we’ve had in the PL era.

We aren’t interested in Eze for the same reason the links to Simons aren’t believable. Wages.

Newcastle would pay those wages but can’t attract players as easily as we could. We just won’t pay the wages to get talent like that.

I’ll be honest, I’ve always defended Solanke but the fact that he accepted those wages means he clearly doesn’t think much of himself, so I’m starting to wonder why I should think that much of him.
Maddison was signed on 175k though at a similar age. I think particularly with Son on the way out we were open to signing someone near 200k this summer.

Maddison for 40m and 8m a year is very different to Eze for 60m in 3 installments and 10.5m per year.

You can believe it but it won’t happen. Sorry but it won’t.

… and if it does happen like you say it’s to replace Son on 190 and likely Romero on 180 or whatever he’s on. Sameway Maddison replaced Kane’s wages in effect.

If we only sign top wage earners to replace other top wage earners, then we are treading water at best.

I know it’s not gonna happen. I just don’t believe it’s because of the wages.

Frank is going to need to be a miracle worker to get us in the top six next season trying to turn a fair few sow's ears (Solanke, Kulusevski, Tel, Odobert, Johnson, Maddison) into silk purses, whilst developing our youngsters, the likes of Gray, Moore, Bergvall etc.

Don't get me wrong, all fairly good players but are they good enough? Let me put it another way.... How many of the bracketed players would get into the starting 11 of City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Woolwich, Newcastle? Not many, if any is my answer.
It saddens me to say, but we currently have a mid-table starting 11 imo.

How many opposition fans rated Firminho or Salah in the first season or 2 at Liverpool ?

Answer - NOBODY (and a lot of Liverpool fans were not fans of the players either)

Firminho doesn't score many yet as a CF he should

Salah - failed at Chelse, not a great winger

......... roll on 5 years ...... different story.

Stop writing off Spurs players in their first couple of seasons - supposed fans wrote off Bale and Kane too...!

I wish people would stop going on as though they know or knew the ins and outs of players' roles

We need real honesty

Solanke needs to put the ball over the line more than he does, and I would put a pound to a penny (P'Tang Yang Kepperbang), for those who are old enough that Richarlison would score more goals than Solanke if he was on the pitch an equivalent amount of time.

I hope Solanke can outscore Johnson in all competitions next season.

Then we will have a player who scores a lot of goals. Some of you will get what Imean.

Yes he does but clearly part of his role was to occupy defenders to allow for Johnson to find space at the back post or run beyond.

Yeah! Kees Smit is a jewel, but just 19 years with less experience in the Dutch Eredivisie. Season 24/25 18 matches in the Eredivisie with 986 minutes. It's a lot of money for this boy and totally no guarentee too success. ( think of Janssen...I'm sorry guys! 🤐).
During UEFA Under 19 he was (one of ) the best player among his peers without a lot of fysical duels.

If Elanga is 55m, 60m for Kudus isn’t extortionate.

But tbh, it feels like Levy is happy to drag it out until Chelsea can shift Madueke and hijack it.

He knows that giving Kudus 150k pw will result in Johnson, and Solanke knocking on his door for comparable money and he can wait until Chelsea give him a good excuse for the deal failing, then go get Dibling and give him 60k pw.

Sadly what you say is very plausible and it's something I've thought for a long time. Sticking to the wage structure is the most important thing to Levy, that's the way he wants to run the club and history has proven this. Being linked to and making half hearted attempts to sign players the likes Kudus, Simons, Eze etc is fine as long as in the shadows the real cheaper wage targets are the deals that are actually being worked on.

An added aspect is that I think there is an element of paranoia in Levy after what happened with Willian. It's beneficial for Spurs if rivals like Chelsea, Newcastle, Woolwich complete their transfer business first and that will mean they will no longer be in competition with us and gazump us at the last minute for the players we actually want.

An example of this could well be Kudus and Dibling. It's like we are provoking Chelsea or whoever to come in and buy Kudus instead of Dibling who they have been also after whilst we are deliberately faffing around in negotiations with West Spam. If Chelsea get him then we have a free run at Dibling.

Neto last summer was a similar situation. In no way whatsoever were Spurs interested in Neto considering his wages, transfer fee and injury record. However they obviously made a fake effort to negotiate to flush out Chelsea who eventually signed him. Meanwhile all along Lange was working in the shadows doing a deal for the real target Odobert

Having said all this id love to be proved wrong and we sign Kudus and lets say Simons this summer. :frankthumbs:

What kind of a midfielder is he?

When we do miss out on Kudus and decide to buy some young forward from another league who nobody ever heard of before, it'll be interesting to see if Frank behaves like Ange did and pretends he was on board with it.

The prime example from last year was Ange demanding a 1v1 specialist with Pedro Neto being the main target. Very similar to the Kudus situation now where Neto was open to coming and his wages demands were quite reasonable (150K) but Spurs were trying to do the deal for 45m. Wolves consistently asked for 55m. Chelsea came in out of nowhere and paid the Wolves asking price and offered Neto 160k a week. We then went and signed Odobert for around 20m and he's on 25k a week salary. Ange went into a press conferance and pretending Odobert was the player he wanted all along even though the dogs on the street new it was a club signing and they didn't back him with a first team player! He towed the line for Levy.

If/When we miss out on Kudus for a cheaper and younger alternative. Lets see how Frank behaves!

It's called an opinion! And in my opinion I have yet to see that the players mentioned are good enough to get us CL qalification next season..
Do I want to be wrong about this? I'll let you decide, but if Frank does get a tune out of this group to the point we are bouncing around the top 4 all season I'll hail him a managerial genius!

Feel free to fuck off until the end of the transfer window if that's your attitude.

Buh-bye :)
