Think you're all missing the point of the Kudus release clause.
It's there to give him a potential exit if Spam were to try to price him out of a move.
If he was properly on fire, someone would have already paid it and he'd have left.
But, probably in annoyance to West Ham, is worth nowhere near £85m and absolutely nobody is paying it.
Had he been wearing it up last season, their best bet would have been to ride out the first 10 days of July and then bump the price up to whatever they wanted.
But now, it matters not. Nobody is paying the release clause before or after. So the only consideration for West Ham is getting the best deal they can for them.

Bowen would be £80-100m. We ain’t paying that. I’d take him over all the players we have been linked with Eze, Mbeumo, Kudus and so on but if West Ham sell their best player they could be relegated and also he is married to Danny Dyers daughter a massive Hammers fan so it would create family turmoil.
