Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Romero is not consistent for us and misses a lot of games. If we get £60m-£70m then a well run club would sell and reinvest properly in another CB - we won’t of course and that’s why many on here don’t want to move Romero on, which I get.

The only question for Levy is - is Romero going to be able to justify his drop in fee between now and next summer by helping us qualify for the CL again next year, or should we sell and take the value now.

Last season was injury riddled and he made errors at the start of the season.

What else do people expect when he’d literally just set a new record for miles traveled around the World as a footballer the season before and just played another full summer of international football. Rodri did his ACL and got more sympathy…

The season before Romero was world class the whole season and people just get selective amnesia to fit their narrative.

They don’t deserve to have winners in their team
Nah, sell him now and move on ......

I think its a coping mechanism. Because they've been convinced that he has had his head turned and is leaving. Doesn't want to be here etc.

I didn't read his tweet that way, I read it that he was happy at Spurs but at some point wants a new challenge, which is probably 99% of footballers these days.

The comparisons with Danso and Dragusin are laughable though, both of those from what I've seen are journeymen squad players. They'll do a squad job but aren't fit to lace up a fit and motivated Romero's boots.

Agreed

Danso can be a good PL defender, Dragusin probably as well but they are nowhere near Romero

They are also coping because they know deep down the reason Romero would have been keen
to leave before we won the EL and they know that if Ange and Romero left, chances are we are right back to Levy’s spursy spurs and the next trophy might be another 20 year wait.

I've wanted Romero gone since his sending off in the Champions League under Conte.

He is unprofessional, unreliable, 'error' prone, arrogant and it's time he left.

Recovering what Spurs payed for him should suffice.

For once there would be no complaints from me if Levy takes the money.
I don't disagree much with anything you have said, and I've been in the Romero thread plenty criticising him for the exact same things.

I think Romero like many was lied to when he came here. I think he bought into the stadium and Levy promising we were going to compete for titles and Champions leagues. I think he saw the Danny Rose signings coming through the door and it pissed him and he downed tools on it.
So yeah, I'd call him out on professionalism, but I also understand it because Levy keeps lying to all of us.

I genuinely believe if we showed a bit of ambition got Kudos, Eze, and a class DM. That Romero might even sign an extension.

The guy is a winner and is class.

Assuming we do sell, Do you believe Levy will get a player of the same calibre?

I think I know you well enough to know the answer to that...

With Romero, we all know what he’s capable of on a one off game. He can pull 10/10 performances out off the hat maybe once in every six matches. The rest of the time, he’s a 5/10 or injured. Do we accept that, or do we want a defender who will never hit 10/10, but will always produce a 7, no lower, no higher?

Further up the field, I’d say we can get away with the former. Pretty fair description of most of our attackers really. But in a defender? I’d suggest consistency is the way to go. But I’d want a fuck load more money for the guy who’s worn a World Cup and a European Trophy since we signed him.

Levy will not buy a top level centre back to replace Romero.

I think Vuskovic is the long term replacement for Romero and Danso is here to steady the ship as back up.

I expect Dragusin to be sold unless Frank thinks keeping him until January / next summer is prudent.

I think the Romero money, from whoever signs him, will pay for Kudus or Rashford.

We shouldn't need to sell one of our best players to enable us to buy. We just qualified for the CL and all of the dosh that comes with that.

Vuskovic for now is an uknown quantity, Danso I clearly don't rate as highly as some on here.

Rashford is pony and would want too much in wages I suspect.

Bottom line for me is selling one of our best and replacing him with Kudus is a gamble and doesn't move the needle. Assuming Kudus fulfills his potential its a kind of sidegrade. Sorts one position but depletes another.

Exactly. Selling Romero goes to Levy's bottom line. We will be weaker without him.

I guess many of us have the hope that a good coach can get more of those 10/10s, and less of the 5/10s

With Danso, I'm not so sure. He won't ever be as good on the ball as Romero, that is true. But defensively, on average, I think he may well turn out to be as good, or better.

I expect Rashford on a season long loan and Spurs paying part of his wages. Less than half would be my guess.

Kudus could be coming too.

He's burnt his bridges at Spam.

Vuskovic is 6'4" and scored 7 goals from centre back in the Belgian league last season. Being 18 is not the issue. He's good enough and big enough.

Why?

I think its very clear to everyone with half a brain that there are issues with Romero in that department.

But as I said in another post further up, you could level the accusation of motivational issues at most of the squad.
I think most of us believe this squad is better than 17th so clearly a lot of them downed tools in the league last year.

Everyone and their dog on here has been telling me how Frank will motivate and coach these players to new levels.

Surely IF that's the case then we want our best players here? No?

Fair. :tanguythumb:
