Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I reckon we will get wharton. When we want a player we normally get them. Unless chelsea steam in.
I'd say we will make an offer but it'll be under 60m and Palace will reject it. The question is does Wharton push for it from his side? I'm not sure he will. But if he did like we've recently seen with kudus/gyokores, then Palace would need to come to the table and maybe we could get him for under 70m. Doubt spurs would be willing to pay anything more.

But if Wharton doesn't push for it then Palace won't want to sell him and will just demand close to 100m which nobody will pay.

Does any reliable source say we want Wharton, or is it all ITKs?

Whoever scouted him over Wharton and Hackney needs binning. We pay twice as much for him then proceed not to actually play him in the role he must have been scouted in. I’m sure we didn’t buy based on his performances as FB at Leeds. We got done price wise .
Was a speculative purchase - we signed him because we could… probably agent led direct to Levy, rather than a THFC football / data led target

There is no way Wharton is worth 80m that Palace are asking for. He’s at best a 50m to 60m player at this stage of his development. He might become an 80m player if he develops, but why pay that money on a hope and a prayer?
Why do people care so much about ENIC’s bank account . I can’t imagine the fans of other big clubs saying look for better value , or he’s not worth it. It’s because we are brainwashed into believing we have budget constraints, we do usually but they are ENIC imposed. As a fan personally my view is if we really want him go and get him, if we don’t it’s Levy’s choice , definitely not mine or many other fans.

I thought Wirtz great player that he is was over priced, I bet Liverpool fans were not saying look for cheaper , doubt Woolwich fans did with Rice . Chavski fans revel in having no handbrake

As I said don’t understand the looking for value as fans when we have a player we really want. Mind you I have no idea if we want Wharton TBF

Showed more than enough last season for me to see why we bought him, he obviously has several facets of his game that are not up to scratch at PL level but he has played for one season under a coach who only really saw players regress in ability during his tenure, and not only that but been used by that coach as emergency cover across the entire backline, he has not had his minutes managed in a manner that is conducive for such a young player. Luckily we have a very long time remaining on his deal and a manager coming in who wanted him at his previous club so I'm very expectant that by the time he is 20/21 we will start to be seeing that £35m fee as the bargain it was.

I can't be bothered to trawl back through but I'm sure when we were strongly linked with Wharton at Blackburn people were probably moaning then about us shopping in the championship for speculative purchases. Certainly there had to have been suggestions that he was the "cheap option" instead of signing whatever £60m DM it was we "actually needed".

Thats because you have a third of a brain.

Read and process counter arguments instead of screaming into the void.

If we have a great window , remains a big IF at this moment and we kick on and finish 3rd , ( wildly unrealistic in my view , 6th -8th more feasible) , does anyone believe we will go again in the summer window 2026. We have spent previously but always as a recovery exercise , if we do well and then go again that will be the sign of real change.

We spend plenty on transfers, what I hope we see this summer is the heralding of a new era where we don't try to "win" the transfer market by picking up players who we assess as "undervalued" in terms of the whole package deal (fee + wages) and target players who quantifiably improve the squad with their skillset. Really depends what timeframe and end goal we are working with, the best case outcome with our crop of very promising 18-21 year olds is that we start to see them flourish in 2-3 years time and if we support that properly by building a team capable of challenging for top 4 in the meantime we might take the next leap with some of the guys who theoretically have an unlimited ceiling atm like Vuskovic, Bergvall, Udogie (think he will be fucking class under Frank with no more inverted bullshit), Moore, Tel, Odobert and to a lesser extent Dorrington, Phillips, Donley. Will be pointless having good youngsters coming through if we turn into the Everton of the south in the meantime.

We have spent over close to 700 million on players in the last 3 years (and this window is still open, with more incomings expected).

We haven't spent that money to finish 6th to 8th...nor even 3rd for that matter. For that money, we need to be mounting a title challenge and, challenging for the Champions League.

I still believe we never spend significantly when in a position of strength , we hunker down and say this will do . For me that is what needs to change

Maybe the one that won the Ballon d’Or?

Maybe Gravenberch or MacAllister who just won the PL?

Maybe, then he spent an entire year out and we have no idea if he hits those levels again.

Caicedo is miles ahead of Gravenberch and MacAllister hahahaha, they’re both ‘good’ .. he’s elite. As if winning the league makes them better - they played for a better team..

Caicedo’s stats in CM are off the charts and the eye test is obvious too. Guy is a perfect modern cm.

They made their team better

There’s more to football than individual stats.

On the eye test, both are clear of Caicedo. If he’s was officiated the way other CMs are, he’d just be a walking red card.

Good player. Overrated. Thats Caicedo.

Anyone feeling comfortable now with how the window is going ? Getting in Kudus and MGW simultaneously was a bit disorienting for me. Now MGW has a question mark so we only have Kudus as a NEW addition to the team and we are in mid July I am underwhelmed. It’s the Levy comfort blanket , it has holes from being moth eaten and a massive sick stain but it’s what I know under ENIC . I still have hopes we get 3 or 4 more in incl MGW, however I won’t be throwing my mediocre transfer window comfort blanket in the bin just yet .

Even with MGW signed, the window is very much incomplete.

Could be an all-timer if we carry on like this. Could be another stinker if MGW is off and we scramble around for the remainder
