The circumstances here are extraordinary and unique and the reporting which caused the player thread to get created was not incorrect.
That said, I do think just as a general principle it makes sense not to start a player thread until the player has been officially announced. Certainty and finality is one factor, but mostly just because that's when their Spurs career begins, makes sense for posterity.
THAT said, y'know, we're not working with radioactive isotopes here, if a player thread jumps the gun we'll live.
My thoughts are that the top clubs have a natural virtuous cycle whereby players who aren't quite good enough for them are out-competed to the margins of the squad and naturally start pushing for moves away, which are available to be made slightly down the food chain for good money which keeps those big clubs engines of elite player acquisition churning.
For a variety of reasons this just systematically doesn't happen at Spurs and we are perpetually in a position where the players who would be most natural and convenient to replace are always DESPERATE to stay.
Richy, Sonny and Bissouma will all be regularly featuring this season, won't they?

We already did overhaul Woolwich for 6 out of the last 8 seasons.

We’ve got 5 options at LWF but only 1 has the potential to be what we need. Son can’t play there anymore on a consistent basis, Solomon isn’t elite, Moore and Yang need loans. That leaves Tel, he needs to step up or we need to go back into the market.
Finally to compete for the title we would also need to upgrade our striker - Osimhen would have been the one in my opinion.
Wharton and Osimhen - probably a further £150m and I’ve also assumed MGW does arrive. To be honest that would still leave question marks over the keeper position as well

I like Richy as a guy but he's not good enough overall imo, and when you consider his injury record we should definitely be looking to sell.
We have to keep improving the overall level of the squad if we want to be truly competitive.
