Let's be real, it's looking like we didn't cover all bases on this apparent release clause.

I think it’s more they have an owner who is willing to simply ignore a legal obligation, that has never happened before. He is the Greek Donald Trump. Of course we can sue Forest and take them to court but that will go beyond the window.

In Spain this doesn’t happen as a release clause the league forces it through even if the club doesn’t want it. In the Prem however I think the league simply assumed clubs would follow the law and didn’t put in a process incase one club decided contract law doesn’t matter.

If the player insisted he wanted to come they'd have no choice but to discuss/enter negotiations.

Yes we don't know the exact details/caveats of the release clause in his contract but this is utterly bizarre

Starting to think MGS's attention is on his wife (understandably so) and the whole thing is just up in the air.

Nothing to report until MGS decides to force the issue, we'll just sit tight until he does.

I don't think any players really enjoy preseason - especially after a long, trying season that ended with such exuberance. Coming back to work after a holiday is always shite.

... Yeah, normal work. Not playing the sport you love with all your mates.

I get that a lot of the PT stuff might be a bit gruelling but frankly its more of a fun footy holiday camp than "work".

yeah, I'm not sure why some people are so confident this is still gonna happen

the release clause clearly meant jack shit

If the release clause means nothing then contracts mean nothing. What is to stop Forest not paying players wages or anything else. If I was a player or agent I wouldn’t touch Forest with a barge poll and why hasn’t the premier league got an automatic release clause enforcement policy like LaLiga. If it doesn’t go through we should be able to sue Forest for millions though, they literally ignored legal contract.

Taking half the contract length for the change of a 16% increase is not what I believe would be called a 'worthwhile risk'
(especially in your scenario where you blindly assume someone will pay 50% more after 10 years)
Its not a blind assumption, the rates of sponsorship deals grow exponentially. And that is not unique to Spurs.

The money spent on transfers and wages is a direct reflection of the global exponential growth in broadcasting and marketing revenue within football.

The idea that we should take £10/yr (BetMGM already pays more than that on a short term deal for the training kit) for 20 years for the naming rights is preposterous. That amount of money is already entirely negligible. Within 5 years it would be a miniscule benefit we'd tied down to for another 15 years. By the final 5 years of the deal it wouldnt be enough to pay a U-21's wages.

Anyway - this is all hypothetical, again, as we're not selling our stadium naming rights any time soon - if at all. It's pure fantasy that its this great windfall waiting to happen.

In Spain release clauses are a legal obligation based on employment law. In the UK, release clauses are whatever it states in the contract. You can literally make them say anything and have extremely specific terms to be triggered.

The details aren't in the public for you to suggest an owner is ignoring a legal obligation. From every single public report, it's Levy that has ignored the legal obligation.

Didn’t something similar happen with Chelsea trying to buy Olise from Palace?

They simply couldn’t be bothered to deal with the arse ache even though they had bid enough to trigger the clause.

We don’t have a contract with Forest or MGW so we don’t have a legal obligation to do shit. Now perhaps MGW/his reps have breached a confidentiality agreement but that’s not on us.
