Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I meant if the clause has been disclosed to Spurs from MGW's agent, then I guess Forest could argue that disclosure has now effected the validity of that element of the contract. I cant think of anything else that the they could argue against.
I think that is exactly what they are arguing, and also saying releasing that information has reduced his value. Again that is educated speculation, and I can’t pass any judgement on the validity of that.

I really just think the whole mess gets cleared up with 65 to 70 being the magic number over say 4 years.

This us just bizarre. I don't believe any report.

A bid has been made. Not rejected. The bid met the clause. No formal complaint by either club. Player still in situ.

It's not a natter of whether the player is for sale.its whether the clause's value has been met. It has.

The whole of the ball crosses the line, then it's a goal.

I could imagine Levy agreeing to 65m if it meant we could pay in installments (bit like the Porro deal at that point); but would he pony up an extra 10m for the privilege? Hmmm.... That's a big chunk to hand over in 'defeat'.

It's odds-on you are right..

According to Football London, we are now looking at Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig.
Is he our answer at 10?

Mind you, having just checked Mr Google, it looks like every club in London has been offered his services.

MGW finds it too much hassle and decides to stay at Forest for another season, or Levy gets pissed off waiting for it to all unravel with limited time to sign such a player, and moves onto another target that Frank has identified/agreed.

Just a couple of other possible outcomes.

If it is stipulated in the contract that the clause was not to be disclosed, I guess Forest could possibly argue that element of the contract has now been negated.
Sure but that's exactly the sort of complication I'm talking about.

No clause in any contract can be disclosed.
That's not true at all, it's only true if and to the extent the contract says so.

We know as football fans that release clauses are trotted about publicly all the time.

it wouldn't be the first time a club has paused a transfer
This is what's annoying and triggering about this saga to all of us smarty-pants pedants around here.

Bar the Christian Ziege story from 25 years ago, this is the first time. Totally unprecedented territory that is in theory impossible. This is NOT the classic bottomless silly season faff. And yet along the story goes as exactly that.

unfortunately it's not our fight. if the player starts legal proceedings i'm sure will jump in and support but until then we wait
It's important to note that MGW will have aspirations to play in the upcoming World Cup as well. If Tuchel will only consider players that are playing in the CL, then he'll be kissing his WC dreams goodbye by staying at Forest.

What I think is happening is the his agent has advised him to keep schtum and wait for an amicable resolution, but in the event he doesn't get that, THEN he'll exercise his right to leave. Until then, let his agency do what he employed them to do in the first place.

It's a game of poker.

MGW doesn't want to leave on bad terms but be also doesn't want to stay, he certainly doesn't want to extend his contract.

Something has got to give at some point.

I think his wife being pregnant is a massive, understandable, distraction.

This will sort out before the season starts, hopefully before we go on tour

You can do something illegal like refusing to honour a release clause in a contract but if there is no mechanism to action then it gets dragged out in legal proceedings. In Spain the release clause gets paid to the league itself who themselves hold the contracts so that thing doesn’t happen. The Forest owner might say I am breaking the law but who can enforce it, if the enforcement mechanism is weak or fails he still wins.

i don't think we can overlook that the owner doing this is an utter train wreck of a human who will absolutely cut off his nose to spite his face
