They were also a great team to watch but I still think 86/87 was fantastic to watch. I never said the 80s were great but they certainly were not mediocre. We had sides that were enjoyable to watch and players that were incredible.
I always feel there's a sense of relativity to that kind of thing. The mid to late 70s was a bit of a car crash, and so the revival in the 80s probably felt similar to how other recently promoted teams like Villa or Newcastle might feel finishing in the top-7.
Equally, the 90s would have seemed amazing when you had one star player among a team of rejects and cloggers.
When any team spends a decade in the top 6 and the team quality improves greatly across the pitch, I think fans get desensitised. Ginola was my teenage era, and there's no way people would accept him as a starter in the current team. Memories are like highlight reels in that way.
