Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Nope, work out the inflation comparion from then until now for both players, transfers and salaries, they don't come close to Isak's potential sale.

Let me ask you something would you prefer to go back to the previous strategy of buying the odd star every so often and having to sell them because of financial difficulties (Waddle and Gazza) or perhaps prefer a time where our squad building was so pitiful and bought a load of duds to make up the numbers in the squad? Is that really showing ambition?

It amazes me that people go on about our strategy immediately pre ENIC as if we were sweeping up trophies every season, such disingenuous nonsense.
Inflation is not linear with football revenue, any simpleton can see that. We used to sign the best players available, now we choose not to even compete for them. Isak is laughable. That’s it

ENIC’s strategy took us to the heights of 17th. Something needs to change - we now have the power to pay over the odds for a top player every other year, and build a squad sensibly

Not content with not believing credible journalist, you're making up transfer stories based on supposition guess work and conspiracy theories.

I'd love to live in your world for a day.

Still feeling that comfort blanket of the MGW story?

Good for you, just keep believing it’s all unfair because of that big mean Greek Forest owner. If it wasn’t for him, we’d be laughing by now

Don’t worry though, that ENIC investment is coming. Daddy Levy always delivers

That's not what the Deloitte figures say.

And I don't want to be a check your sources guy, but

We're losing the forest for the trees here though.

We can sign Alexander Isak. We could have signed Florian Wirtz. Maybe couldn't have done both, certainly can't sign 11 of those guys, but the club's strategy has conspicuously avoided going anywhere near the maximum of what is possible for a marquee individual acquisition with our financial capacity.
We can only sign Isak or any player if they want to come to us. Why is he leaving Newcastle? Presumably as he wants to go to a better club and he will have the choice and it will not be us. It is not all about money.

You’re forgetting that players also have a choice! It’s not all about financials lol.

So you're gonna ignore everything I said which put to bed the laughable notion of a sustainable and sensible football strategy pre ENIC, you should perhaps read my post again and answer the fairly simple question then you'll probably work out why comparing this Isak transfer now is nothing alike the total bodge jobs we used to partake in partake in pre ENIC.

Also lol at your last para, if you're referencing last season as a totality of ENIC's tenure then you're a bit of a dunce, sorry. ENIC's strategy also got us got us to the CL final and cemented us as an established top 6 club if you're gonna play that game but I guess that doesn't suit the narrative now does it.

Yes, but it’s not stopping City or Chelsea. They just need the incitament to start bending the PSR rules. I think losing Isak might be it.
Yeah, it definitely could make them start doing the type of tricks Chelsea and Villa do like the women’s team thing. But the reason it doesn’t stop City, Chelsea etc is because their revenue is way higher than Newcastle’s has been over the past few years.

I read this in the Athletic yesterday:
“Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), Newcastle’s majority owners, have the wherewithal to pay elite salaries and elite transfer fees, but the system does not allow it, and although that system is designed to protect football from unbalanced spending, it also serves to protect those already at the top.

How do ambitious clubs circumnavigate that or compete with it? They get bigger, and in Newcastle’s case, their overall revenue for the financial year 2023-24 was £320.3m, a 28 per cent year-on-year increase which Eales described as “unprecedented growth in football.” Pretty impressive until you see what they’re up against; for the same period, Manchester City’s revenue was £715m, more than double.”

The article didn’t say it but Chelsea’s 23/24 revenue was £468.5m.

🎶 just a small town girl
Livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train going anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train going anywhere
A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waitin'
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searchin' in the night
Streetlights, people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin' somewhere in the night
Workin' hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some'll win, some will lose
Some are born to sing the blues
Whoa, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waitin'
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searchin' in the night
Streetlights, people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin', somewhere in the night
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'

Don't stop believin'

According to the Bank of England’s nifty little inflation calculator, 120 million pounds today is the equivalent of 27.6 million pounds in 1980 and 48 million in 1990. We have never been anywhere close to making “exactly that signing” under previous owners.
What an awful post.

Bullshit. You're comparing two completely different era's you clown. The market prices then are incomparable to the market prices today.

Stop running the club down and belittling our past magnificence.
.... Where 'To dare is to Do' actually meant something

We used to be trailblazers in the transfer market. In fact we smashed the all time British transfer record to sign Jimmy Greaves. In his absolute prime

Imagine the excitement that would have given our fans who were around at the time. Bazali Bazali ?

Imagine this cunt :levystare:smashing the British transfer record 😆 ..or beating off Alex Fergusons Man Utd to sign the mercurial talent that was Paul Gascoigne lol

The only records he smashes are boardroom salaries and chairman bonuses

Everything okay at home madame?

BTW if you don't believe the MGW story then I'm struggling to work out why you think we pay low wages? Because according to you everything is a conspiracy, top tier journos speak shit and we can't take anything as gospel until we see solid evidence which makes your yearly tedious agenda about our wage budget incredibly pointless doesn't it?

Or doesn't that count?

You struggle to understand why I think we pay lower wages because of the MGW rumours ?

So I shouldn’t believe something that we know as a fact that’s actually happened, because of a rumour about a completely different thing that was reported from people you believe implicitly but didn’t actually happen.

Riiiiight

Keep believing Shady

You’re just a small town girl

Edit: my agenda isn’t our wage budget. My agenda is our owners building a squad to compete with the most ambitious clubs in our league.

One day you’ll understand that and defend this club and it’s fans as hard as you defend the owners.

This is what you call mental gymnastics.

This BTW all came from your absolute bullshit of not believing that we put in a bid for MGW and now you've ended up tying yourself in knots with this crap, bravo.

I just want a good news day
And some positive news
It just seems so quiet at the moment
I’m very laid back
I don’t want the club to be Reckless and we know they won’t be
But something to give the fans a boost
Is it to much to ask

It’s not even about believing it is it though.

I said, we don’t have any solid evidence to say that any of the stuff being reported happened because we don’t have one single quote,

Which is a true statement. People can reply with how much they trust Ornstein and Romano but that them believing or not.

My point has fuck all to do with belief and everything to do with reality, which is that right now MGW is nothing more than a summer transfer rumour that we are all chatting about on the internet and 99% of those are complete bullshit.

Yep, waffle.

We also had a decent title tilt that season too and ended 3rd......

But also:

85/86 - 10th
87/88 - 13th
+ 1 x FA Cup final.

vs Poch's team

15/16 - 3rd
16/17 - 2nd
17/18 - 3rd
+ 1 x CL final.

Both won fuck all. :(

We also had a 4, 5, 4 + 1 x LCup final run under Redknapp........ Also = no trophy.

Avg league position:

80/81 > 89/90 = 6.4
09/10 > 18/19 (*) = 4.1

(*End of Poch era)
They chasm between the top sides and mid table sides in the 80s was a lot less that it has been in the last 10 years.
Back in the 80s it wasn’t unusual to find a West Ham,Norwich,Wimbledon,Forest and Sheff Wed in the top 6. There were so many good sides in that era with every club having an excellent strike pairing. Just a different time but for me so much more exciting to watch.

You said you didn't believe we put in a bid -

Very little gets reported as much as our bid for him without being true.

You post guff on here from the shittest sources constantly, but that is just not comparable in the slightest. Had we not triggered his release clause with a bid, there would have been literally nothing for Forest to complain about.
