We have more often than not been average in the league
One second place finish in 64 years
Suggests we should be be doing better, and has been the case for a long time
I’d love things to change , I really would
But if we are risk adverse ( which at times is the correct thing to do )
There are other times, when we could go for it a bit much

Its utterly stupid to compare Liverpool window to us.
Liverpool finished 46 points above. They have a settled squad , settled core of XI and manager with atleast 1 season of success.

Money isnt going to solve shit.... Ofcourse, more better players the good. No one is saying no to that. But , we have 2nd youngest squad in PL and most of them, were mismanaged and not coached for 2 years now. Most of them have higher ceiling but we dont know whats that.

We under Frank are in a different stage of squad building, while other top club are putting icing on cake. We dont know if our cake is still properly cooked.

None of that is a reason to just let them get further ahead

Ahh the good old never ending rebuild and transitional season. Over relience on youngsters and injury prone senior pros who dont care enough about losing got us 17th last season. Carrying on with the same, albeit with a more pragmatic manager is pretty stupid even by our standards. Even though my hopes werent high of some glorious window i did think the twin kick up the arse of our lowest finish in 48 years plus CL football might give them pause for thought. It clearly hasnt. If not now then when?

More accurately we don't even know what kind of cake Frank is cooking yet..... That's not to say Frank & the club don't, but the malcontents certainly don't.

If our window ends up being Kudus, Takai & Tel then that's weak, but fuck all the interim melting about what other clubs are doing and the incessant angry-boy posts acting like the window is already closed for us. It's not.

9am - "I'm angry"

Bang average window for a 'big' club that finished 17th with 22 Ls
I thought the reason we finished 17th was because the manager was shit. Wasn't that why we changed the manager?

No, it turns out it was actually the players who were crap, so apparently we need to replace most of them too.

I think some of you on here are more excited by shiny new players or managers, than you are by winning matches.

I do agree the squad needs reinforcing, but not because we finished 17th, but because we're in the Champions League this season. However I trust the managment team we've got in place to identify the players that are a good fit for our team and within our budget.

As others have pointed out we've made considerable progress under ENIC, even if it has taken longer than some fans would like. A little more patience would be helpful.

I'm going to start writing a daily poem about the MGW saga.

“Fifteen Days”

Fifteen days, the deal’s gone cold,
While Morgan’s dream is bought and sold.
A clause ignored, a plea denied—
By Forest’s lord with too much pride.

They say he once dodged darker fate,
With ships of heroin, court, and hate.
Now he holds Gibbs‑White in chains,
As spite and scandal stain the game.

Err...

So to summarize, you believe we should SELL ALL YOUNG PLAYERS and SELL ALL INJURY PRONE SENIORS in THIS summer window ?

Are you realistically suggesting that ?

If not, what is your actionable suggestion from this moaning ?

Dont be daft. I'm suggesting that we improve the actual first team with 4 or so really good players whilst getting rid of those that are unreliable and/or past their best. The youngsters should be able to develop in their own time, possibly with a loan, rather than a load of hype and unrealistic expectation.

Bang average window for a club that is considered “Big 6”.

Football is a movable feast and the feast is currently moving.

Forget net spend, forget what we did previously, PSR or whatever, Liverpool, City, Chelsea and to some extent Woolwich have clearly all decided this summer they need to take it up a notch.

Right now we are standing still in our same old model and in this environment, standing still is going backwards.

Adapt or die.
If we go backwards from 17th then we really are screwed :sandroscream:

This the thing though. That wasn't due to the players.

Postecoglou may have won us a trophy, but he managed to make Nuno, the worst of AVB, the no-away-wins-for-months-Poch, the meltdown Conte, even Juande Ramos, all actually look half decent last season.

I remember the point where all of them went to shit and now, looking back after last season, I wonder what we were all so upset about. Ramos only lost 17 games in over 54 matches. Even Christian Gross only lost 12 of his 30 games. He was sacked after losing 3 of his last 10 games. Ange's last 10 league games were W1 D1 L8.

So let's not pretend that the club that finished 17th with 22 losses has a squad that shouldn't be doing better. We just had an exponentially awful coaching team that eclipsed all known barriers of how you can take a team that is light years ahead of the ones we had in the 90s and somehow make them look like Derby County.

The team doesn't need massive changes at this point - it mostly needed someone with the ability to put out a team that has tactics above the sunday league level

That's really wishful thinking my guy. Sure if our ambition is to finish higher than 17th it's definitely got that in it, but we ain't finishing higher than 8th next season unless this window drastically changes course.

Oh thanks..you didnt say this , did you ?

Frank finished a few points off 8th with a fraction of the budget and talent.

It makes me angry really that Ange has seemingly created this downtrodden self-deprecating version of the fanbase.

8th used to be the worst we'd expect to finish with a squad full of holes

I dont blame the youngsters for last season, i do blame most (not all) of the senior players as well as owners, DoF and manager. You dont finish 17th on 39pts from bad luck. That points to an underlying failure for a club like us and just skirting round the edges adding 1 or 2 proper players isnt going to change much.
