Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Currently:

Maddison, Son, Richarlison, Solanke, Johnson, Odobert, Kudus, Tel, Gil, Soloman, Kulusevski, Bissouma, Sarr, Bergvall, Bentancur.

That's 15 players in attack and midfield. How on earth is that 'horrendous depth'.
We are actively trying to sell and upgrade Son, Richarlison, Soloman, Bissouma and Gil.

Right now they do not classify as good depth. Odobert doesn't qualify yet either. He is a semi decent french u21, can we be relying on him in CL and PL games? I don't think so

It depends how much we could get for him and who we would be buying to replace him, I think he is a very good player when fit, its just he never seems to stay fit (for us) I remember the same conversations around GLC, maybe if we had a good player in mind to replace Sonny then it wouldn't be so risky to keep Richie.

My worry is the Sonny replacement is Tel , who hasn't done anything yet to show us he is even fit to Lace Son's boots, don't get me wrong he might still come good but I would have rather taken the risk on Moore last season and seeing what he could do instead of Tel.
Kudus not the son replacement?

The point being made was that other managers had weak squads as well, I don't think it's a strawman to point out that this isn't necessarily the whole truth.

As another poster points out, it's doubtful any of our present squad, would currently get in an all-time Spurs Premier League team.

Many of them are young though and while some of them may well turn out to be Bale or Modric level players, a couple of older more experienced additions would probably help both the team and individuals improve.

Ange said as much after the cup final. The problem is that our board sometimes seem to only judge a player on their resale value, as opposed to what they can bring to the team.
Totally agree.
The adage you don’t win anything with kids is certainly still relevant.

Man Utd team where Hansen made that comment still had Bruce, Pallister, Schmeichel, Keane, Cantona, Cole, Irwin.

We do need to add experience and ideally in spine of team, hence why Palhlinha (sp) wouldn’t be a bad addition in my view

Jol had a prime Jermaine Jenas

That isn't relevant.

How is it "horrendous depth"? It isn't, is it? There's a vast difference between saying it is "horrendous depth" and saying it is "good".

"horrendous" depth is what we have at WB, IMO. Next to no coverage if Porro or Udogie gets a long term injury.

What an awful post.

Bullshit. You're comparing two completely different era's you clown. The market prices then are incomparable to the market prices today.

Stop running the club down and belittling our past magnificence.
.... Where 'To dare is to Do' actually meant something

We used to be trailblazers in the transfer market. In fact we smashed the all time British transfer record to sign Jimmy Greaves. In his absolute prime

Imagine the excitement that would have given our fans who were around at the time. Bazali Bazali ?

Imagine this cunt :levystare:smashing the British transfer record 😆 ..or beating off Alex Fergusons Man Utd to sign the mercurial talent that was Paul Gascoigne lol

The only records he smashes are boardroom salaries and chairman bonuses

Greavsie was signed for £99999 deliberately by Billy Nic who didn’t want him to have the burden of being the first £100k player!
I doubt that would have bothered him though!

I don't like to resort to insults because usually people are on here to debate, but you do make yourself come across like a supreme tosser with the things you say.

I don't see how you can fail to distinguish between how a player is forced to pay and their individual ability shining through.

Let's put it very simply:

Our defenders were forced to play a suicidal high-line. Net result? Our defence leaks lots of goals and looks awful.
Van der Ven, however, was able to perform incredible recoveries to limit this as much as possible. Net result? Individually shows to be a brilliant defender, despite the above.

I've never know people to try and be so patronising whilst simultaneously saying such dumb things before.

Or you could just admit you were chatting shit and it was quite funny

I don’t really care if you are on drugs and I wouldn’t judge you if you were

Yeah I agree that horrendous is the wrong term. It wasn't a word I used. I just think we are carrying a lot of squad players who just aren't CL or top 4 material. But fully agree that full back is where our worst depth is. If Porro or Udogie get a long term injury then our season is in big trouble immediately.
