Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

There’s plenty to blame Levy for tbh.
Nope. I’m about as far from ITK as you can get but here’s my read of the situation
- We tried to buy MGW after getting info on the release clause from the players agent. CCA are good friends of THFC
- The players agent was probably threatened with being sued by BigMacanikis because he breached the NDA in the contract between MGW and the club. Spurs are not party to that.
- BigMacanikis threatened to sue Spurs for “tapping up” being talking to the player without the club permission. Practically every transfer has that these days so this allegation holds no water
- NF suing the agent is probably for the difference between the release clause and the valuation of say £80m. So maybe £20m. I read somewhere that ManC had made an enquiry for MGW before Spurs and were told £80m. Presumably ManC didn’t know of the release clause.
- in order to get his agent out of a £20m bind, MGW agreed to sign a new contract with either a much higher release clause or no release clause at all. This contract is purely for that purpose and not an intent to stay at NF, because this is only a 1 year extension on his existing 2 year contract. If he intended to re-commit to NF he would have signed a 5 year contract.

It’s unfortunate and Spurs can rightly feel like victims. But Levy is not at fault here.

The key thing is for us to move on and get some decent business done fairly quickly with the money we haven’t spent on MGW. If we don’t do that, feel free to blame Levy (or Lange) for not having a Plan B.

When we signed Kudus and had a “here we go” for MGW I actually thought levy was serious about his intentions of wanting to
Win it all, I should have known better!
With this club , it’s the hope that kills you, only we could be given a lifeline by getting CL and throw it away before it’s even started! :frankshock2:

Oh please fuck off with that shite.

It's yet another example of juw anatueur our leadership can be and how easy they can be embarrassed by other clubs.

That fat Greek bastard beat us and it makes our club look weak. Do you think this would've happened to a Chelsea or City if they'd bid for MGW?

Anyway, fuck Forest a club that were only ever relevant when they had a genius at the helm. Hope they go down next season.
ManC apparently made an enquiry for MGW before Spurs and were told £80m. ManC weren’t aware of the release clause and backed off. So maybe they aren’t so smart?

All these scouts we have, all these head of this, head of that and our targets are so predictable. What are they getting paid for?

Levy hires Paradodgy and he turns out to be....dodgy.

Levy hires Lange and his claim to fame so far is to fucking cry when he couldn't get a deal over the line.

It's like an episode of fucking dream team.

What an absolute shit show, so often we low ball clubs for players but this one we actually bid the release clause but still manage to fuck it up.

Just where this clubs is going under Levy at the helm is anyone’s guess. So many mistakes, the Stadium cash cow is great for him though.
Except we haven't fucked this one up - we got done over by a fat Greek crime boss desperate to maintain his fragile ego. Gibbs-White was never kicking up a stink to move to Tottenham either.

Not that I disagree with your general point about Levy's shitshow. Anyone's guess what half-price prospect we now end up with.

Did Villa miss out on CL...

I'd love Morgan Rodgers at Spurs

He would cost £80m minimum, there is no chance of us doing that. Levy fundamentally does not believe that spending big is a route to success.

Remember, the season we reached a CL final was the season we spent no money. Liverpool just won the PL with no signings except an irrelevant Chiesa. Levy takes these examples in isolation as proof that his way will succeed and he will destroy countless seasons and managers trying to prove it himself.

I always enjoy the Tottenham summer window version of an advent calender.

Calm down the window isnt even open yet.
Stop melting pre season training hasnt begun.
FFS the manager has to assess the squad
Get a grip we havent gone on tour yet.

Season hasnt started yet ya melt.
Still a week of the window left i'm sure we'll do something.
Youth player/fringe squad player is like a new signing anyway.
Windows shut now, stop moaning and back the team you Gooner troll.
You missed the last evening of the transfer window saga - we’re trying to make a last ditched signing but the Fax has fucked up again, like in the movie the Firm.

What I suspect happened was that this "release clause" either wasn't as chiselled in stone as all were led to believe, and/or it had certain conditions eg. time limits for activation that weren't valid at the time of the bid.

Wouldn't surprise me either if the club have heard that the player would be interested in Spurs from source A, heard the release clause figure from source B, thought they could connect the dots and made a horlicks of it.

Whatever the case, whether the fat Greek was bluffing or not, there was obviously enough of a whiff of collusion and impropriety with the approach on our part that meant we totally backed down on it the past two weeks.

There is enough to castigate Levy over - the continued lack of real coherent vision, transfer policy, that at least 50% of this squad is still total dog muck, another total 180 on the manager front (the most boring, basic, middle of the road safe guy playing boring basic middle of the road pragmatic football after the last guy was seen as too extreme and out there).... but this one I don't think is on him.

Fault here I'm more inclined to say is with the recruitment/admin who have clearly totally cocked up the bid/approach.
