The Notts Forest determined to keep the player and pay a wage on a 3 year contract that nobody would want to pay on a longer term 5 year contract.

You can criticise player and his agent, and their integrity, for tying him to Forest for another year or two before he gets sold. But both get a huge financial reward

Nothing to do with how spurs are run.

And no other PL club tried to hijack the deal which tells you that Forest applied the right measure of carrot and stick to keep player - otherwise losing both Elanga and MGW left them very vulnerable to being in relegation area

Forest say its their highest ever wages contract.

And its a short contract ....... and the only reason for that is that Forest cannot afford to pay MGW wages in a 5 year contract........ which means other clubs cannot afford to pay Forest £60m and match those wages for 5 years.

So if its not £20m (£400k pw) its certainly north of £15m pa (£300k pw) as Forest owner offers the maximum possible wage he can afford to stop MGW being bought.

Its high risk to offer very high wages even on a 3 year contract but its the only way Notts Forest keep the player. And the determination to keep the player is quite clear from the interview.

Forest would have been better off letting Gibbs-White go, but it came down to the owner's ego. He's a very good player, but not at that price for Forest. I think there's also some reputational damage they will incur with other clubs, agents, and even their own players. It's a one day headline and win for Marinakas and a long-term loss.

Pay the fucking fee wanted by Forest and the wages wanted by MGW.

Like Liverpool did.

If we were a serious club we’d have a deal lined up to go this week.

But we’re on tour to Asia so everything will be put on hold and we’ll rock up to the Super Cup with Bissouma and Devine in midfield.

Ok, so those are the quotes I needed, he’s clearly referencing an approach to buy MGW there.

In which case, we have fucked this transfer up. However you want to cook it, we’ve attempted a method to get the player and it’s failed.

Either we didn’t do enough to persuade MGW not to sign that contract, or we tried to do it behind the owners back and underestimated him,

Either way, he’s got that smug grin because he’s won and it’s true, he has.
