Why are Bayern willing to get rid after a year and to slash his value in half?
Think how much better off we'd have been if we'd cut bait on Ndombele after a year.

And we could've too.

Not to compare the two, age and system fit versus desire to be a professional footballer are different factors, but sometimes you just know you made a mistake and the best thing to do is just move on.

They're Bayern Munich, they'll be fine and they know it.

This is common throughout the footy food chain though.

For instance If I was in the Stoke City boardroom in the Summer of 2017, I’d have been telling their management to stay well clear of Kevin Wimmer… logic being that Spurs just had their best league season in ages, why are they making him available?

I’ve just got a particular aversion to what I see as “hand me down” type signings.

Palhinha a cheap option of course

if it was him with a new younger DM then great, but that's unlikely. Levy my dear Goblin friend, if you want to win the league you need to go to Brighton and drop a bag of coin for Baleba. or at least look at Ederson from Atalanta, perhaps Gomes at wolves. or ideally you get Ederson baleba etc and still bring in Pahinha on loan because you want to compete in all competitions

you cant always cheap your way to success, worked last season but it's a fools game

Why is he 'cheap'

Are you aware of the deal?

No.

He isn't coming to Spurs on the cheap.

Not going to lie im a little underwhelmed with Palhinha but he has good experience and a solid senior player who no doubt will probably add some much needed leadership.

Will tide us over i guess until Bergvall, sarr and Gray really come of age...hopefully.

We still need a creator and another goalscorer aswell

I will try to explain this failure just taking Sissoko as an example...

May 2016 - Mane comes to Spurs training ground ,very much open to move & play once again with Poch. We offer him 80k he asks for 130k a week. We drag it on hoping he will sign for Poch

June 2016 - Liverpool swoop in him and give him a salary of 110k a week and pay transfer fee 30m + 6m addon

31 Aug 2016 - After fuking around for the entire window, to appease Poch, Levy signs Sissoko on last day of window for.... 30m fee giving him 80k a week

In essence, we lose out a player who our manager desperately wanted to a rival who was finishing under us....because we were trying to squeeze out 1 to 2m from his wages...

Fast forward 5 years, Sissoko walks away on free transfer winning nothing....and giving away that pen in CL final to very same Mane.

On otherhand, Mane wins EFL cup, FA cup, PL , CL , Club world cup...and then gets sold to Bayern for 27m....

Failure of these transfers all have 1 underlying thing : We fuck around trying to penny pinch and let good players go to our rivals and then settling for 2nd or 3rd choice...who mope around for 4 years and go for less winning nothing....
Sissoko’s did not give the penalty away for God’s sake.

2 red flags for me:

Why are Bayern willing to get rid after a year and to slash his value in half?

Sure he was good at Fulham 2 years ago, but 1) football moves very quickly, and 2) They replaced him with Sander Berge and didn’t miss a beat.

This group of midfielders can dig in, scrap protect the defence when needs be. What they can’t do well is pass through the lines.

Palhinha to me is the DM version of Adama Traore. He’s elite at one particular skill, but we need more.
We need exactly what he is, a player who breaks up play across the pitch

All of this is probably true, and at the same time, we will seriously need a hard cunt to break up play with all our CL and cup matches this year. Bissouma and Bents can get bullied by some teams and he’s great in the air on set pieces too.

Importantly he can press. He would look so good in a high press, which Bents cannot do anymore post injury, and Bissouma is too inconsistent at doing.

And honestly, I don’t even fully disagree with your Adama comparison, as long as you also grant that he would’ve helped us too at some point in time. Wouldn’t have been worth the crazy fee we nearly paid for him, but he would’ve offered something useful, in a rotation role.

Bayern are moving him on as they play tika taka (ish) and are in a relatively poor league to how good they are, so they don't need a ball winner to protect the defense. They also dominate possession with 64% on average (Man city top our league possession with 59%for comparison), so having a deep lying player makes much more sense.

TLDR: He is a very good round peg but they have a square hole. Like you, we have a big round hole.

There is a whole month left of the transfer window, and Frank will need some time to assess the players.

2 areas where we have risk.

Creative Mid - With Kulu out until later this year and Madisson playing yoyo with his fitness, we will struggle to create chances. Son looks likely to exit. Solanke, Tel, Johnson are all strikers that thrive on good service and aren't really strikers who can create their own chances. Richy is good at attacking half chances and long balls, but again - rarely fit to play.

Full Back - Again, Udogie struggling with fitness and Porro cannot play every single game. Spence and Davies are not a good enough backup. The lack of movement in these positions suggests that Frank won't use the full backs like Ange and Conte did, and may prefer a flat back 4 - in which case, I'd expect Porro may seek an exit.
I would say we need quality in attack and midfield. I think we are covered in most other areas.

Haha there is so much hedge your bets and covering all options on that post. It’s crazy how obvious it is but people lap it up.

Hilarious that WLB comes out of the woodwork this morning. Been no links in media for ages so he was unable to make up BS. Then some rumours about Xavi Simons yesterday night, and he suddenly pops up with a little made up story about it.

Amazingly, despite having inside info, he mentions nothing at all about Palhinha. Maybe he shared behind the scenes?

Meanwhile his XS story already looks to be BS.
