Werner and Lenglet were exactly like Palhinha in the sense that they were once top class hugely valuable players whose form fell off a cliff and took them out of the plans at top clubs, opening them up as loanees to gamble on.

The big difference between Palhinha versus Werner and Lenglet is that there's reasonably strong evidence that moving to the Premier League will help Palhinha, whereas that only seemed likely to make Werner and Lenglet's problems worse, and so it was.

That’s a good way to put it.

We were never able to sign peak Palinha 2 years ago because other top wage payers wanted him,

We can get him now because injuries and a bad patch at a big club make him less appealing to those clubs.

Doesn’t mean it won’t “work”. TBH, like you said, he knows the league so we have a good idea of the baseline contribution we’re getting and there will be games where that will help.

Have we signed Caicedo or Baleba or Rice? The most in-demand DMs in the PL? No. Have we signed a solid PL player? Yes

Brighton are tough to deal with baleba would cost more then Pedro I have no doubt. At least with palhinha we can use the funds for a 10 and lw hopefully

I think someone proving he's very fucking good in the premier league consistently for two seasons probably makes him less exactly like a player who flopped in it at Chelsea and Barca's fourth choice centre back.

I get people will constantly pick on the Bayern thing but he was bought by a different manager then had a 10 or so game injury either side of the Christmas break. It's not like we're buying someone who didn't quite break in at Southampton, German champions with two very good German internationals that play in that position.

Goretzka plays in that position and I’d be massively underwhelmed if we were signing him.

I do think Palinha is more suited to the PL than Goretzka ( maybe even Kimmich) so I’m ok with the signing.

It just doesn’t blow me away and doesn’t represent a move that matches Levy’s claim that he wants to win the league

We should have funds for both

I know better than to expect that we will, but that doesn’t mean I’m getting carried away with any efforts from Levy that are less than that.

Fuck it, if Palinha meant we were getting Simons or Eze or Rodrigo, I’d be getting carried away but we aren’t even doing that.

It will be Millot or El Khannouss level

Two gettable changers for me for prices quoted are leao and simons 60 and 70

130 for those two in euros btw so drops 113 in pounds for two slot in game changers

Here's what will happen grealish and elliot which isn't as exciting

Why dont chelsea just change their name to 'chelsea sign'? Their training ground will be like a car auction site. Apparently maresca has asked players to come in an hour early so he can go through the roll call in time! Come on premier league cotton on to this manipulation of spending.

But that's our problem isn't it? We can't compete so don't bother. If the worst case scenario is the goons have to spend more to get the same outcome then fine but at least test the waters. We're in a desperate situation now and I'm bored of the club pussying out of going after elite players.
It is not a matter of competing, he wants to go to Woolwich. His choice. What makes you think we did not test the waters but backed off because he was not interested.
