Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I thought Vuskovic was nailed on to stay at Spurs. He's U21 so could be registered for all our domestic games, even if he might not have made the CL 17. Phillips being loaned so early in the window made it look like Frank regarded Luka as our best young CB prospect.

Perhaps it means we'll sign one of the more established CB prospects we've been linked with, such as Koni De Winter, and a specialist LB, even though Spence has proved he can play there.

Alternately, if this means Davies is staying as LB / LCB cover, I'll be annoyed. He's been a good squad professional for a decade but - as with the legend Sonny - it's time to say thank you & good night. Until Davies returns as a coach.....

We loaned out Vuskovic? When did that happen?

That’s not true. Over the past 60 years we never finished top 6 even three seasons in a row until ENIC. We just haven’t been consistent contenders for the league.

And forget CL - we never qualified for that or the European cup.

So no - there’s no reason to think we’d be league or champions league challengers.
You are not measuring apples with apples though are you?

In the 60's and early 70's, which was THFC's golden period really, Spurs were definitely perceived as one of the top clubs in the country in respect of winning trophies, buying the best players and competing in general with all the big hitters.

This is the period before Bob Paisley's Liverpool going on to dominate English and European football.

The recovery from relegation in 77 and the 80's domestic and European success then sustained the club's status as one of England's biggest teams.

Spurs were genuinely competing with everyone in those days.

The Sugar and ENIC regimes have changed that status and done reputational damage to Spurs.

Spurs under these regimes have become a selling club who have flirted with success but more often than not bottled it when it matters most.

Spurs also no longer break British transfer records, as they did with Greaves and Gascoigne, to beat other big clubs to the best players and pay them the top salaries.

Spurs only have the best paid directors under these regimes.

The league position was not the be all and end all in the 60's, 70's, 80's and to a lesser extent; the 90's.

The F.A. Cup and European trophies were all a much bigger prize than they are post Premier League and Champions League. The League Cup was the poor relation in this respect but winning it did get you into Europe.

I know it must be difficult for younger supporters to comprehend this but it is important that people understand how big THFC was then, is now and could be with the right people running the finances.

ENIC and Levy will always be more interested in what's in it for them rather than the supporters.

Levy will never change this perception of him now.

It's too late.

What he will do is anything that buys him a bit more time.

Hard to believe tbh. Loaning out Vuskovic at this stage is unbelievably fucking stupid.

One injury to Romero or VDV and we’re down to Danso. Good player but who comes into rotate? Dragusin with the ACL or Ben Davies? Vuskovic needs to stay until at least January.

We're lacking depth everywhere.

If Frank though Vuskovic could be useful immediately, he wouldn't be going out on loan.

I too would love for Vuskovic to not go out on loan, but if Frank, who sees him every day in training, has sanctioned it then I'm pretty sure there's a reason he's on the loan list.

It's easy to forget that the players themselves have a voice in all this.

It seems really clear that Mikey Moore was himself pushing to get somewhere that would give him a larger role, for all we know Vuskovic may want to be the nailed-on starter that he would absolutely not be here with Romero and VDV.

You don't just do whatever the player wants of course, they are under contract and we have every right to retain them, but for a young talent you want them pushing themselves and aggressively trying to get better and the desire to play is part of that.

The trouble is though, if we loan that whole crew out, we are for real competing with 21 total bodies for the Champions League group stage, and that is going to be a serious challenge.

This is where I have a problem , as someone who is old enough to remember 58 of those 60 years I feel very differently about the first 30 to the last 30 years .
The first 30 includes a relegation, but I always felt we were a player in that era , I knew relegation was an aberration.
Will be interesting to see if the other old fogies feel like me from a lived rather than statistical perspective. I genuinely don’t believe this is old git, it was better in the old days syndrome . Throughout the barren spells of the 70s and 80’s there were periods of success . It’s just when things were tough we always felt like a sleeping giant , a bear that shouldn’t be poked . Statistics cannot reflect an emotion from 30 , 40 , 50 years ago . I have not felt we are a sleeping giant for most of Levy’s tenure despite the periods where there have been undoubted highs.
Some of that is clearly down to Sky and the CL coming along at the wrong time for us . I just cannot accept that in 25 years our owners constantly repeat the same obvious mistakes .

Edit: also and this I vitally important the 60’s 70’s,80’s and even 91 when we won the FA cup it was a far more prestigious trophy than winning it today , it was not as prestigious as winning the league but not far off it. Likewise our European trophies dwarf the EL in prestige . So I am afraid the statistics do not stack up against the lived experience of older fans , so yes I expect better from Levy . I also feel he lacks the passion for the club the fans have , therefore I expect nothing to change

Well that's load of garbage though...

Alderweireld. Wanyama. Trippier. Parker. Dembele. Friedel. Defoe.

Alderweireld could be potentially top 3 to top 5 signings of past 15 years. Dembele clearly in top 10.
We technically brought Toby from Atleti but right after he had finished exceptional season for Saints. So he was very much EPL proven.

There are some regarding whom the jury is still out - Solanke and Maddisson. Latter being on plus side, former so far (considering fee) on rather minus side.

Also by far our most pathetic flops have been from outside of EPL - Ndombele, Lo Celso, Soldado, Sanchez, Janssen, Gil, N'ije, Nkoudou.

So our recruitment have been absolute mixed bag buying both - from EPL and outside of EPL. Both have large share of flops. Both have absolute hits.

Keep reading this thread for my reply.

With Romero staying and Bissouma yet to leave, it looks like we’ll be playing a lot of 4-3-3 this season.

We still have Takai as well for CB? So 5 players there

Romero
Danso
VDV
Dragusin
Takai

On Loan

Phillips
Dorrington
Vuskovic - TBC
Takai and Dragusin are out with unconfirmed return dates. Dragusin coming back from an ACL so will take some time to get back to full availability and Takai could be out for a while and both Vuskovic and Phillips have played a higher level of football than him so he's still a massive unknown as to how he'll deal with this level. Basically got 3 + Davies if he stays.
