He wasn't top scorer in that tournament and Germany didn't even reach the semis, I'm not saying it wasn't a statement signing for a club that finished 15th the season prior, I'm saying I think Van Der Vaart was at least on par, he played in the world cup final (albeit as a substitute) a few months before joining us. We got lucky that RM decided so late in the day they wanted rid of him and we were fastest to the punch, but he absolutely could have gone to an elite club at the time and would have looked shit hot IMO.Again, he was one of the biggest names at the time, just came off a world cup scoring 5 goals.

Gazza and Lineker under Scholar were far bigger coups than Klinsmann or anything we ever achieved under Sugar, and arguably ENIC, surely the better example to bring up, especially as Scholar is widely regarded as one of our worst chairmen as well for putting the club into debt.
