Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

With the “news” that we want another CB, I am terrified that we will line up against Burnley at home with 3 CBs and Palhinha with Bentancur in a double pivot with Sarr/Bergvall in the 10 position - against PSG, Sure, but Burnley at home would be most unwelcome
And we'll score an early set piece and then defend our penalty area desperately for the next 80 mins.

I agree, but then which one has the major European trophy.

I do agree though, Lucas Moura who came in 6 months later would have been a star player in our current side

not sure GIF by Night At The Museum

For one, that team would have waltzed THIS iteration of the Europa league given unrestricted freedom to throw league games every weekend to prep.
For another thing, the Europa League is much closer in quality to the Conference league, heck, the intertoto cup, than THE European Cup.

Yes i agree. I think we will go all out with best 11 to win, but maybe im wrong.

Maybe im misjudging it all but I thought it was being treated pretty seriously.
Bit micky mouse... like the charity shield or whatever its called nowadays. If you win, you claim it and rub it in your rivals faces and if you lose, it's a preseason friendly. I fully expect Frank to play his best and sacrifice Burnley game. Guarantee we look flat in that one and out on our feet from the 70 minute mark.

It’s Burnley at home. We should be able to manage to put the game away in the first half if we have anything about us at all.

They have barely invested and are set to definitely go straight back down.

Funny to think that entire team only cost ~£100m to assemble ... None of them were established 'stars' when we bought them, mainly opportunistic buys from smaller teams like Ajax, Southampton, Sheff Utd, Fulham, Milton Keynes, Leeds etc. This is why Levy has reverted back to type and what he is trying to recreate with purchases of players like Bergvall, Gray, VdV, Odobert etc.

Lloris £11m
Walker £4m
Alderweireld £11m
Vertonghen £10m
Rose £1m
Wanyama £11m
Dembele £15m
Dele £5m
Eriksen £11m
Kane £0m
Son £22m

Bunch of cheap punts

Yep our team when we said goodbye to WHL

Lloris
Walker
Alderweireld
Vertonghen
Rose
Wanyama
Dembele
Dele
Eriksen
Kane
Son

look at us now :frankfacepalm:

to be fair though it was the usual same old mix of opportunistic buys, and youth projects

youth projects
kane
walker
rose
dele

opportunistic or cheaper levy specials
Toby
Wanyama
Dembele
Lloris
vertonghen
son

only Eriksen i think had a whiff of ambition like lamela, to ease the blow of selling bale.

The stars just aligned at that bunch, and through great training/tactics. maybe they will again with Tel, Gray, Bergvall, Odobert etc

Once in a lifetime confluence of luck, excellent recruitment, real team chemistry, a manager who was actually “ahead of the curve” and we just bottled it. I cannot believe that team didn’t get a trophy, the 16-17 Spurs side was easily our best I’ve seen in my entire life with no close second.

Everything came together perfectly and we still couldn’t win. I’ll never understand it

The difference is the quality was far lower in the PL 10 years ago. European football was strong and Spain and Italy could afford to keep players.

Now you can’t just get by with punts. You have to spend on real quality.

"BBC Sport was told that Benjamin Sesko has an informal agreement with RB Leipzig that he can leave if an elite team offer about £70m.

Newcastle have now reportedly submitted an improved offer comprising an initial £69.5m fee plus add-ons."

.........

Have Newcastle hired Levy on some sort of advisory role basis?!? :vicarioconfused:

Does any of our current squad get in that team. And no, before anyone even contemplates saying it, Romero and Micky don't at it's not even close.

......... but that informal agreement is not activated anyway, it stipulates elite club, so the above is null & void.
