No idea why Frank thinks Davies is worth keeping. Bit of a bad mark against him for that. We know Davies can’t hack it. He got done for pace last season v low level team. Can’t remember which team. Why don’t invest the time in developing Philips say for CB.

Interesting you say that. I bet one of the reasons we’re looking at CB isn’t because Frank doesn’t rate Micky like Ange does.

Udogie is injured, we have no youth team LB that is good enough to play for the senior team, and freezing out a senior player popular in the dressing room wouldn’t be a good look.
The reality is the club and recruitment team should have taken the decision to upgrade on Davies this summer. As they should have a for a number of years now.
Davies still inexplicably being here is on the hierarchy, not the manager.
We just need depth to compete in the UCL and PL.
The clubs that consistently perform in the UCL and top four domestic leagues typically have at least 3 top CBs.
Look at Man City: Dias, Stones, Ake, plus others that can fill in at CB (Guardiol)
Real Madrid: Militao, Rudiger, Huijsen, and David Alaba (when healthy).
Etc.
Three very good CBs are needed to legitimately compete in both UCL and the EPL.
We also have to be realistic about Micky’s injury history.
It would make way more sense to just keep Vuskovic and use the money on a LB or LW. Then again who the fuck knows with this club.
I think with the amount of games we have next season you would have to keep him. He works hard, doesn’t mind his role of 4th choice CB, and I don’t know if we get anything for him.
More valuable on the training ground and coming off the bench IMO.
I also think we owe him one cause he was an under the radar warlord when we needed him to be last year.
Not sure what all the fuzz is about, I think our current squad is capable enough of staying up.
Could be a few things. I do think he rates Van de Ven but wonder if he views Van de Ven as a hybrid LB, which actually isn’t a bad shout a la Vertonghen. I remember Micky was immense vs City in 2024 in the LB role and he plays there for his NT.
To be clear I rate Guehi and if we could actually get him for a reasonable fee that’d be a good deal. Gallagher not so much, don’t think we need a player like him at all.
Im not opposed to CB depth, lord knows we could always use more. It’s just funny because CB is the one singular position where there’s actually a bit of cover at the moment, at the very least more cover than at RB, LB, LW, AM, CF, etc.
