Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Once you get into position then you start “doing more”.

Can’t run before you walk.

Fair enough I don't disagree given the constraints of our ownership model but I think there are a couple of things to be mindful of:

1) there is precedent of not doing more at the correct moments, seen with Harry, Poch, and Conte

2) the PL is more competitive than ever, and the opportunistic approach may eventually bring spurs back to top 4 but it could take a decade, who knows

At this point, if a quality 10 and someone who can play across the forward line aren’t brought in it will be a longgg season.

We just lost two of our biggest names in Son and Madison. They must be replaced if we want any chance at top 6.

What the fuck does that mean?
Money was paid in this summer window. It is 100% black and white, there are no arguments even.
It is money paid this summer. If you notice- I am not talking about squad strengthening - I am talking about cash outlay.
In January for Tel there was just loan fee and this is it. It was negotiated and decided this summer that money would be paid.

But OK - i posted concrete figures.
Now you do to - tell me ONE transfer window where any club has paid out 460 million EUR or more. And then we'll talk.
(not to mention that usually in windows where such sums are spent ususually there is high transfer income too - which in our case will not be here - I can't see us selling players for more than 100 mil ; currently outgoings stand at 35 mil).

Liverpool would have to pay 152 million for Isak to reach this figure btw.
But give me even one previous example of one club shipping out 460 million or more in a single transfer window.
If you can't then it is another example of you just producing garbage and empty talk with no facts to back it up.

It’s not paid in the summer though is it? Nobody pays for a transfer in one lump. They pay a first installment in the summer but in truth the first installment was when the loan started with a loan fee.

Loan to buy is an accounting quirk. I count the transfer as when the player starts playing for a new club.

Part of the reason whey we are in this mess, is that for a large amount of time, we abandoned what actually made us good in the market.

A club with our restrictions should be focusing on:

1) Young gems from Europe and beyond, who have been slightly overlooked (Modric, Eriksen, Son).

2) young gems from the football league/relegated teams (Carrick, Defoe, Dele, Bale, Lennon, Rose, Walker, )

3) slightly overlooked players who are approaching their peak (Berbatov, Alderweireld, Dembele, Vertonghen, Lloris, Trippier)

4) academy players who either turn into quality first teamers (Kane) or make a profit for the club in sales after being showcased through loans/a spell in the team (Skipp).

The obsession with “ready made” or experience inevitably leads to us signing absolute mediocrity. Doherty, Hojbjerg, Richarlison, Werner. Palhinha is more of the same, as Grealish will be and people just don’t learn this lesson. The more of these players we’ve signed, the worse we have become

The scariest part is that we are particularly vulnerable to this because the club is still scarred by Lo Celso and Ndombele flopping (ignoring that EVERY big team has flops and they still keep going), and the club behaves like Vultures in the market.

Agree with 90% of what you say.

But some small things are way off.
First of all, if you say Palhinha is "more of the same" and put him into same bracket as Werner (?!?) makes it look like you no anything about football. For millionth of time - Pahlinha was standout performer in EPL for two seasons. One of the best in the league and giant like Bayern lured him off for 50 million (!). What the fuck does he have in common with Werner who was clear flop in the league.

It is pretty clear that he in fact falls to category 2) in your list, just not directly. He is quality player that for some reason was not wanted in previous team (that happened to be one of best clubs in world). I don't get why you whine about this signing quite frankly. Again - well proven in the league and was one of the best in position. And quite frankly - he is the best player we have seriously been linked with in his position this summer. Whartons and whatnot have never achieved that level. It just seems like another poster disapointed by him not costing 60+ million and totally overlooking actual footballing ability.

Other thing - saying that getting Hjojberg at the time he joined was "worse we have become" is just stupid. He improved our midfield a great deal AT THAT POINT IN TIME. We were total shit in midfield before he joined. And this helped us to achieve 4th place too. Mistake was not trying to improve on him AFTERWARDS but not signing him in the first place. Claiming latter is either revisionism or not understanding football at all.

Could not agree more regarding the part that every club have big flops and we made wrong conclusions from LoNdombelly fuckup!

According to Romano "we are calling around and exploring the market" lol

You never hear that about any of the big clubs, only the ones run awfully by an owner who doesn't have a clue

Race to the bottom it should not be.

1) I’ve given up on this with Levy/ENIC

2) new ownership + investment changes our prospects dramatically.

Why would you think that, though?

Seriously - why?

Have a look at the players we have been buying the last 3 years, revamping the squad with young promising players and seriously, seriously ask yourself why you would think we were going to all of a sudden revamp the entire squad?
We need to bolster some specific positions qith quality - a revamp is exacly the opposite of what people had been calling for when all they wanted was a plan and for us to just stop buying stop gaps.

If you arent on board with the current way of doing things then fair enough - but having an expectaion so far removed from reality was always going to leave you disappointed - i just dont know where that kind of idea would even materialise from?

I didn't mean revamp the squad, I meant the team with 4 high quality first team additions.

The fact that the club finished 17th and decided to go again this season apart from two first team additions but then losing Maddison and Son has meant we've actually gone backwards....after finishing 17th.

As one of the most vocal anti ange people on here - i dont know how you can think we have gone backwards before even watching us play a competetive match of football.

this makes no sense.

son was not capapable of playing last season - I think giving a run to a young, hungry player will be net for that position.

Maddison ill give you but we will 100% bring in a number 10 before end of window.

Here we are, at page 1882...

1882 like the year in which our Glorious Tottenham was founded.
So please, can it be a sign for a positive turn in the transfer window and a better season ahead.
We believe in you as a squad and will back you up no matter what. BUT Levy has to act like it in the transfers that need to be done. You cannot loan all our young players and let the injuries be in the way of a good season.
We saw the impact of a lack of replacements last year and absolutely have to act against it with quality 1st team signings!

COYS! :mickyarm:

Not sure the alleged Romano comments aren't more bollocks.

We just seem to have gone into the summer with next to no picture, whereas the 5 spenders, scattergun cnut club apart, give the impression of a painter with an idea of what they have asked to sketch.

First team has seen us lose Maddison and Son and sign Kudus. The slightly more important paint splatter to that little art show is it's on the back of finishing 17th. It matters not how we start to assess that this has been the most baffling, and negligent start to a premier league season in Enic's history. That in itself takes some doing

No. Transfer amount is not paid in full with one lump. Agreed. But it becomes commitment since the transfer is made. Same goes for other clubs big signings too. Yet none of them has never taken that many commitments with one go, have they?

No. The first installment and loan fee are not always the same. With Tel we had no commitment after the loan fee really. Could have put him back on the plane to Germany in May with zero liability. With Danso I think it was loan with obligation to buy, so it is trickier. But still the real commitment came from the summer and this is also on equal basis with other clubs accounting (meaning you can see similar deals impacting other clubs numbers as well; so it still all consistent).

And no. We are not talking about "transfer when player starts playing for the new club". We are talking about money being spent in one window. As explained - on consistent basis across all clubs.

Now do you have an example to present to me and other forum members of one club taking commitments of 460 million euros per one window or not? Cause I failed to find bigger one window expenditure per one club than Liverpool summer 25 (308 mEUR) and Chelsea (both summer and winter 22/23) ~300 million.
