Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Agree with 90% of what you say.

But some small things are way off.
First of all, if you say Palhinha is "more of the same" and put him into same bracket as Werner (?!?) makes it look like you no anything about football. For millionth of time - Pahlinha was standout performer in EPL for two seasons. One of the best in the league and giant like Bayern lured him off for 50 million (!). What the fuck does he have in common with Werner who was clear flop in the league.

It is pretty clear that he in fact falls to category 2) in your list, just not directly. He is quality player that for some reason was not wanted in previous team (that happened to be one of best clubs in world). I don't get why you whine about this signing quite frankly. Again - well proven in the league and was one of the best in position. And quite frankly - he is the best player we have seriously been linked with in his position this summer. Whartons and whatnot have never achieved that level. It just seems like another poster disapointed by him not costing 60+ million and totally overlooking actual footballing ability.

Other thing - saying that getting Hjojberg at the time he joined was "worse we have become" is just stupid. He improved our midfield a great deal AT THAT POINT IN TIME. We were total shit in midfield before he joined. And this helped us to achieve 4th place too. Mistake was not trying to improve on him AFTERWARDS but not signing him in the first place. Claiming latter is either revisionism or not understanding football at all.

Could not agree more regarding the part that every club have big flops and we made wrong conclusions from LoNdombelly fuckup!
On Palhinha: I found him to be incredibly overrated during his Fulham tenure, I see his ball winning stats in the same way I see Adama Traore’s dribbling. You can’t rate a player just because they have one outstanding attribute.

The fact that Fulham replaced him with Sander Berge and retained their level of performance is mildly concerning to say the least.

He got found out at Bayern because he can’t pass wind. Same reason why PSG got rid of Ugarte after a season. Those are red flags to me.

Passing in our midfield was already a weakness; combativeness wasn’t. We needed a DLP at 6 far more than a shin kicker IMO.

Nobody will ever convince me that Hojbjerg was a necessity, sorry. We signed him after finishing 6th, He left us in 8th. Just because he was more “reliable” than Winks/Ndombele doesn’t make him good. Mediocre steady Eddie that talked a good game. I attach him immediately to Mourinho and that era that did us untold damage.

Hate to say it draw or lose at home at burnley next week the crowd arent going to be happy and has reached a head in the current situation.

Yeap. Very likely.
And then Levy panics because there are "Levy out" chants heard in and around stadium.

So in last dich panic he tries to pretend of doing the whole summers work in 1 week.
Which means there will be additions, but only panic ones. Thus not best options but just the ones that are available in that late moment.
And sure enough we will overpay for them as well.

If the transfer market were a car boot sale, Daniel Levy would show up at 2pm as people are packing their leftover shit into bin bags and be all like

"ooh, what ya got there, 10p?"

:levywhoa:

Wharton is absolutely streets ahead of Palhinha as a footballer ffs. If Wharton went to Bayern tomorrow he would get games and fit in because he plays a style of football which suits elite, possession dominant teams.

Palhinha is a big tackly limited dm. He was perfect for Fulham. He won the ball loads in a low block disciplined team and then recycled it. Tuchel wanted a bit of that at Bayern as he’s a conservative fucker at heart but Palhinha was screwed when there was no Tuchel as he is a very limited and blunt tool.

Wharton can resist a press and spray passes about for fun. He’s been brilliant for Palace and key to an FA cup win. Not sure why Palhinha being really good at tackling means he’s achieved a level Wharton hasn’t.

If we’re talking actual footballing ability; a player like Wharton is levels ahead of Palhinha. Palhinha is all physicality and effort. He doesn’t add goals, assists, he doesn’t control tempo, doesn’t help you handle a press. He wins you the ball back and recycles. A very basic footballer.

Wharton vs Palhinha in 2025…

I remember a Large group of Spurs fans rating Michael Brown ahead of Michael Carrick in 2004.

Shin kicking is so overrated for aspiring teams.

You can be rate be an excellent ball winner/disruptor but without being a good footballer in your own right, it means nothing.

80m on Gray and Tel. Could have had Eze for that.

Where is the evidence that Eze would even come to us, was available for sixty million, and like the MGW saga, would Palace even consider selling to us ?

Finally if Eze was that good a player, available for just sixty million, why is he still a Palace player?

You could state any one of a dozen fantasy players that we should have got instead of signing Gray and Tel.
