Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If it's nil nil going into half time, you can bet your house that there will be boos.

I won't be booing and I'm not saying it's right but there will definitely be an edgy atmosphere the longer we go without scoring.

If Burnley take the lead then it will just be a chorus of sighs and groans every time a spurs player misplaces the ball - and that helps nobody. Seen it time and time again - I've even asked if the person shouting abuse thinks it will help the team but they just shrug and say "I dunno but this is shit innit"
You've paid you're £100 + for a ticket you can do what the fuck you like within the law... you want to boo, then go ahead. You should never tell other fans how to fan.

"no, I made it up first"

No-mark ITK jabroni royal rumble for the delusional self-importance trophy.......

....Except the gimps in the comments patting both on the back for their "continued good work".

FFS; no wonder these (not)-ITK scabs continue to throw shit at the wall.

The club ownership needs to change. This is becoming ridiculous. We are now known as the cheapskate, penny-pincher, skinflint club in addition to being the laughing stock of the football world failing to to compete for trophies and bottling almost every chance to win something. They always shop a level or more below the top class and try to squeeze every penny out of any deal.

This my friends is a culture, and it stems from the very top. They, dragged this great club name to the mud, and continue to do so.

SELL THE CLUB YOU MISERS!!!!!

Not really, for me. Im not embarrassed by what the board does. I am by what other fans do because thats who I get associated with.

The manager and the group of players he has deserve to be given the opportunity to show what they have got before a group of idiots go protest and let them know they don't think they are good enough before they've even seen them play a competitive match .
What are your realistic expectations of this group of players? Surely not top 4, so an optimistic 5th to 8th? And you're happy with that knowing that we have the opportunity to build on last years cup success and improve the starting 11?

Don't answer that or I might start getting embarrassed by fan base. We're supposed to want the best for our team, not worry about how the fucking owners look.

Where is the planning? Why do we take such a scattergun approach? (Jackson to replace Richarlson in the last week f transfer? Per lease)I know buying players is a bit more complicated than, say, buying a car but just how hard can it be?
1. Make a list of positions that need upgrading.
2. Triage that list. Put members of the recruitment/purchase team on each of the triaged list. (eg top person/s on priority 1 etc. it is possible to work on more than one transfer at a time)
3. Draw up list of three to four players the manager would like for said positions.
4. Find out the willingness of the player to join and the club to sell.
5. Find out sale price of player and players wage demands, agent fees etc. Do cost analysis v budget for said position/player.
6. Pay for player.
7. If unable to get choice one go to point 4 for choice 2.
8. Do the above as early as possible.

Simples just ask Liverpool.
That’s how a club who plans well should operate.

Spurs never appear to have a plan, appear to procrastinate over our choices and take forever trying to scrape every dollar off the deal.

Let’s take the example of selling Richarlson and buying Jackson.
If we wanted/needed another striker, which imo we do, why wait till so late in the window when there’s so little left in the striker pool. Why did we not try for one of the strikers our competitors have now signed/about to sign?

Fair dinkum, you’d reckon this club is run by a pack of beer swilling truck drivers the way things get done around here. This sort of incompetence shouldn’t be tolerated. When I ran my business if my acquisition team had been so incompetent they’d have been out the door and not after 25 years of incompetence either. *

* Mind you I did most the sourcing and acquiring, needed someone I could trust to not fuck it up 🤣

My views have fuck to do with the owners. I support the club and celebrate our achievements and have little regard for the owners. Winning the 2nd biggest European Cup competition is an achievement and clearly from the celebrations after so do many supporters. Having watched many of our winning cup runs there is always a degree of luck on the way. The CL run to the final a prime example.
I also am far from happy with the squad we have at present. Injuries to Maddison, Kula, Udogie, Solanke & Dragusin and Son leaving have made it worse.
However my point to which you replied was I was fed up with the constant reminders that we finished 17th rather than we were the Europa Cup winners. Neither has any bearing on the fact which most agree that as you say this squad is not up to challenging for the PL or CL this season.
Agree, and both The EL win and finishing 17th in The EPL have to be acknowledged. One through celebration, which like every other Spurs fan I did. Then once I sobered up reality hit that we were shite in the league and lucky in a dumbed down EL comp and a major overhaul of our squad was needed for 25/26 in the hope of avoiding another crap EPL campaign. And you can't have an opinion on this unless you acknowledge we only avoided relegation because of 3 truly poor sides who clearly didn't belong in The EPL. And our current answer to that is Kudus and an 30 year old loanee.

Probably something like if he plays 20 game they have to pay £10m if not he goes somewhere for free at the end of his contract. Probably a loan fee in there as well??

Certain criteria triggering a retrospective fee makes potential sense.

But it also says "option to buy"..... Which makes zero sense.....

That the majority of fans and writers can't process the diff. between and meaning of the words "option" and "obligation" is a complete mind fuck! :wall:

I think Liverpool, Chelsea, Woolwich, and certainly City could do that.

But none have because they don't think he's worth that.

Does what you think have any relationship to fact ? You have no idea what they could or could not do financially or if have had him in their plans . You’re just having a guess which is fair enough but it’s not particularly a strong argument , is it

Football and footballers were different then. The premier league and champions league created the dominance of a top 4. Before, it was just Liverpool who dominated, and mainly during the 70s. Everyone else were rather up and down. Teams like Derby, Ipswich, Villa could, and did take the league. Most teams had a few stars; we had lots, so every season there was a strong possibility. In hindsight, if we had more steel at the back, to complement our attacking force, we would have had a better chance.

I've also only got stats from 60 to 80, and we were relegated in the 70s! But from what I've been told by the older generation, we played beautiful football. From 81 to 87 we were a force, every season. It never went to plan though, but you would enjoy the game. If I compare that to the ENIC period, I'd say the period under Redknapp and Pochettino would be comparable, but it never really felt like we could win and dominate the league under either. The top four teams had better resources.

That period under Pochettino, when the top four were in a rebuilding phase, was our best shot. And did we almost make the most of it! But, having failed, you knew it was just a matter of time when the top teams would blow us out of the water again.

That, I think is the big difference between the two periods, the level of expectation. I mean no disrespect to anyone, but we talk as though being in the top 4 is something, but that is what football is in the modern era. In the 80s we expected to win, and we had an brilliant and highly competitive team that didn't get over the line. We were building up to that under Poch, but I don't think we ever got there, not really.

But it has to be said that modern football is different. It's all about money, and ensuring that those on top stay on top. I mean, that's all that FFS and FSR is all about. So perhaps our expectations are aligned to our place in that hierarchy.
I think the 24/7 multi-platform sport media cycle largely contributes to base angst, as well.

Through the 80s you read press clippings of other teams, I expect, and maybe some highlights. You chatted it up with your mates - but mostly it was about going to the ground and watching your club.

Because you really only ever saw large amounts of your own team, as well, clubs had more of their own cult heros and probably overrated their own players to a degree.

Transfers were more rare, teams built more organically and sprinkled in outside recruits. Now you seem to have move coverage in the summer than during the season. There's this expectation of "keeping up with the Joneses" and if you aren't chopping and changing 1/3 of the squad then you're falling behind.

In reality, I think a good of the complaints against ENIC are echoed on other forums about other clubs. A lot of it has to do with general negativity about the way the sport has gone and continues to go.

As you say, its all about money and what your place in the hierarchy is. You can't really overcome that, except through a truly elite level run of recruitment such as Liverpool have had.

We need more commitment out of ENIC, but can't make Joe send money. I am excited to see the development of what is a very young squad.

WTF you talking about? Except for Kudus, Pahlinha and Takai (who’s unlikely to play), we’ve seen all these players play before. We know what they are and aren’t capable of in most cases. We may disagree on some of them, but I’d say there’s a large consensus on the squad as a whole, by the fan base as to where we stand, and the inactivity of management to improve a squad that finished 17th last season is deserving of protest. But hey, we’ll all pull our heads in because we’d hate for YOU to be embarrassed, petal

EDIT: Your ok anyway, as we don’t associate you as a spurs fan, more a Levy/ENIC fan.
Edit the second: I’m not embarrassed by what the board does, I’m disgusted.
