Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I worry slightly that Liverpool paying £35m for Guehi makes Palace think about blocking a move. They may not be happy about being relegated to the Conference League but they won't want to lose 2+ good players before even playing in it.

Im not sure they have much of a choice, after this summer he has <2 years on his contract and his value will diminish rapidly - with even the threat of losing him on a free

The could make the choice to accept the financial loss, keep the player - but I think right now is time to sell

EDIT : Also already seeing links to them replacing him with that Leicester lad linked to us last week (with c.£35m change from an Eze sale to spend elsewhere)

Of course they have a choice. Like we had a choice when we said no to City for Kane.
He's (Eze) a good egg. He's not gonna go full Isaak and refuse to play for them. They might see his contributions as worth more than any fees.

This bodes well for our Silvio chase if this is true. City looking at replacement wingers is only because they expect to sell Silvio to us

What are Hercules and Trix saying about it?

Can't see Eze going to the goons - if that was going to happen, then why hasn't it happened before now. Plus they've already spent 216m euros - the most they've ever spent in a transfer window apparently - are they going to add another 60mil on top?

Also, reports suggest that City need to sell Savinho to be able to get Rodrygo so it's a case of who blinks first I would imagine.

I still think Man City come in for Eze. They need English players after losing Grealish.

Plus why would the transfer be settled soon. If anything I reckon we miss out early or it goes to the final day.

I agree on the first part the release clause is null and void at this point.
But palaces power is only getting weaker at this point as ezes value is only going downwards. 68m release clause obviously isn't getting payed. I think if us or gooners get him this summer it will be around 60m, by January that drops to 50m and by next summer probably around the 40m mark.

Palace actually want to sell this summer imo, and 68m hasn't happened which was there best result possible

But if they are willing, they CAN accept lower bid than release clause right now too!
They would have to sell if the clause is met but they always have opportunity to agree lower price earlier as well.

Once the clause expire club will have more control over the dealing, it seems pretty clear and logical.

You're entitled to that opinion on Eze, but he does drift into games and make big impacts on them all the time.

El Khannouss is a prospect who flashes the potential to be a luxury player who drifts in and out of games.

Leicester scraped a late win at home against a 10-man Sheffield Wednesday side that might not fulfill all their fixtures this season whereas Palace beat Liverpool at Wembley, just to be clear.
How many more players are we buying from relegated or champo teams. Yet everyone then says players like donley need minutes in the champo. I have no doubt he is prbly just as good as EL K.

We absolutely could afford Isak and ought to see ourselves as a contender for players like that, but we probably can't afford Savinho, Eze AND Isak, and the other stuff is more important.
This is where our transfer policy stinks. There is no joined up writing. We didn’t need Wilson, tel , Yang etc. what we should be doing is buying 2/3 quality proven players each summer. Then supplement with funds like berg who don’t cost the earth and develop some of own prospects. But no we spend a shite load on average player or totally unproven ‘prospects’ who some of the fan base keep saying have potential and there is a player in there bollocks. Without seeing them do one good thing.

This bodes well for our Savio chase if this is true. City looking at replacement wingers is only because they expect to sell Savio to us

I've just come up with a new transfer strategy, find a club who buys decent players like City or Brighton for example, make an offer on a player they have that is to good to refuse, then drag your heels in a bit and wait for them to be linked to a replacement, then swoop in and Gazump them on the replacement!! :levylol:

Pal, neither of them has ever played a full PL season. And it ain't just injuries, their performances were sometimes (often?) poor even when fit.

Romero's record? 22, 27, 33 and 18. And I don't expect the fact he's now been given the armband to change that...I reckon he'll play between 20-25 league games this season, but ofc I hope I'm wrong and he plays 38 at a POTY level.

Micky played 27 his first year and just 13 last season. Like Romero, I hope he's turned a corner and can play even 30 league games this season, but that looks a big ask based on recent history.

Of our current CB options, the only one you can really trust to be fit and at the level all year is Danso. Our friend Ben should always be seen as the 5th pick, just here in case of emergency. Takai shouldn't even be in the convo, neither should Dragusin even when he's fit again.

So yeah, if I'm a decent CB, especially a left-footed one, I'm defo backing myself to join Spurs and play a lot of games.
VDV shouldn’t be under the same physical stresses this year as last. Anges system meant he was constantly at peaks of physicality. Not sure how you can trust Danso to remain fit, he hasn’t had a big run of games so we can’t be sure but as a back up you’d certainly hope he can remain available all year. Hopefully he does get some more game time as I think there’s a really good player there.

Another thing is I was looking at our midfield, it's pretty shite isn't it. Compared to the top sides.

Bentancur, Bissouma, Gray, Bergvall, Sarr, Palinha, meh.

Not one of them you could say you would be confident is top or capable of delivering a top season.

If we sign eze and Silvio it makes it less important.

But if we don't sign those two, our shite attack combined with a very underwhelming midfield doesn't bode well
I’ve been saying this for some time now, our midfield is genuinely shockingly poor. Very few if any of our midfielders would get in other top half PL teams.

We have needed some real quality in there for years. Palhinha 3 years ago may well have been what we needed, but it is an absolutely massive ask of him to come in and be our lynchpin in midfield when he is the wrong side of 30 and has just come off a season where he has tanked at a really top club, barely kicking a ball in anger. I fear it will be very difficult for him to acclimatise back to PL football in any kind of speedy fashion.

Yes i agree. I did say a few pages back that they could accept a lower price even with the release clause in play.

My initial response to herclueless was brought about because I disagreed with the notion of him saying that when the release clause ends its more better for palace. In this situation I don't think it does tbh because nobody will pay the release clause amount, and when it ends palace wont get a chance of a fee that much for him imo

I think it all depends on how you view the situation, but thats how I see it.
