Yeah but what did we buy in Solanke? A player who had one prolific season that represented an anomaly in terms of goal return vs the remainder of his career, playing as the focal point in a team set up to service him, he is 2024's answer to Darren Bent, a good enough player who will score goals but very much a known quantity and overpriced for his ability level. I like him btw but I think if we can keep Richy fit and in form (very possible given its a WC year and Brazil's dearth of options there means a good season in the PL almost certainly sees him on the plane) he is a better fit for our team right now than Solanke IMO.
This is exactly it. Dom is a decent player, who if he'd cost £30m as a depth piece would be a fantastic signing. A panic signing to be the main forward of a club at £65m, who can't score goals is madness. One good season in the PL, which was definitely an anomaly.

Richy has more strings to his bow, and staying for is his issue. He's the better player imo and it's not particularly close. In saying that, could we use an upgrade.on both? Absolutely.

Palace are turning into a sort of academy for top youngsters especially those from south london.

We should make them our feeder club :freundgoal:

They're all bought though... None of them are coming from their academy.

They're merely one of a few clubs that are steady and can promise regular starts without the pressure that comes from top 6 club.

I agree that Savinho is not worth £70m but he is worth more than Solanke whom we got our pants pulled down for IMO, £65m should be getting you a top striking talent coveted by other top clubs, thinking Isak, Sesko, Gyokeres who were all wanted by Europe's elite and all moved for around the same as Solanke. He's realistically a £40m player who had a hefty dose of English tax and shit market for strikers tax slapped on top. Savinho with his current ability and potential upside is definitely a £50-60m player.

Gyokeres looked better than Solanke vs United?

Not for me.

Son & Kane not ring any bells?
Yes but that’s a while mate. And I put guys like Eze and Kudus as more flair whereas Kane and Sonny were just the perfect partnership. The last flair player we had that really excited me was Rafa. Bale was incredible too but he wasn’t that type of player that could play clever passes and had that silky way about them. Just love those players and Eze is one of those. I really hope to fuck we get this one done.

They aren’t signing top players though - Spurs could have easily landed every player they’ve bought this summer - but I honestly don’t think there is a single one that would improve us.
Douglas Luiz wouldn't have been a bad signing. And I think Dan Ndoye will turn out to be a very good player. The point was, however, that Marinakis holding MGW hostage didn't seem to deter good players from signing for them as a lot of us thought might happen.

I understand feeling the need to justify his signing since he still plays for us and is still at a juncture where he could prove at least a worthwhile signing if not a little expensive, but I refuse to believe anyone thinks £65m was his true value, even Bournemouth fans must have been pretty shocked when we paid up what was essentially a "fuck off" price put on a player to deter bids.
Gyokeres looked better than Solanke vs United?

Not for me.
Look, he's a little gooner cunt now and I want so badly for him to fail, I really do, I also don't put that much stock into the Portuguese league and think it takes less talent than people ascribe to Gyokeres to score prolifically over there, but if you put a gun to my head and asked me who has a better chance by the end of their contract of looking like a £65m player I'm going Gyokeres every day because there's no world where Dominic Solanke will ever look like being worth that amount of money, there's a chance albeit slim that Gyokeres will replicate his feats in Portugal once he gets going and I'm gonna avoid writing him off so early as it would be typical Spurs luck that we do that loudly and often if eg he is goalless through their first 5 and then goes on to bang 20+ PL goals. I'll wait til May.

I didn't question whether you rate Solanke or not...

The simple fact is your comparison to those you 3 mentioned was fundamentally flawed.

Will end up?

I'm not talking about never played in the EPL, Wirtz has already been a pivotal part of a Bundesliga title and a run to the Europa League final. Also has 31 caps for Germany.

Apple & oranges.
Transer fees include guaranteed and add-ons, mate. Hence "will end up." You asked if anyone has ever paid that money for a 20-year old and I gave you two examples. The Wirtz one was to show that, yes very young players not older than 20/21/22 can command insane transfer fees. Obviously because they are very good.
