Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

There’s two expectations

1. Our expectations of the club and and Chairman. He was very explicit about what those should be.

2. Our expectations of the actual squad he delivers. And the window isn’t shut but most likely the expectation of the squad he’s about to deliver should be somewhere between 4th to 8th. As per usual

And for this season, a squad that can reasonably be expected to compete for 4tb - 8th would be fine in my opinion.

I dont think it's there at present. More likely 6th to 10th.

This will be a fun one. We lose and can blame ENIC and Levy for leaving business too late or we can win and praise frank for having amazing tactical flexibility. Win win either way!! cOYS

In his own words, he only became involved in football to profit from it's global popularity .
The literal definition of a parasite

This describes pretty much all football club owners at the highest level at this point, or do you think they’re all just doing it for funsies?

I suppose we can dream that a much richer, Spurs-mad version of the Brentford guy is out there somewhere.

If that’s all you are expecting from these owners then you are only helping them maintain the same cycle of absolutely shafting the fanbase

Highest ticket prices in Europe and you are happy with them giving you an 8th placed squad.

I don’t understand you

That’s likely why the deal was done. Similar to Tel there will always be an EU market for Odobert. Worse case senairo he’s loaned a few times, which covers his fee in cash flow terms, and eventually he’s sold at a book profit.

Signing him and the likes of Tel are more a business decision than a footballing decision.
All I'm saying is that when I read the PSG forum before our game with them, they were very excited to see how Odobert was getting on, as France fans. They were not with Tel.

Then were befuddled afterwards how we don't use him, yet we use Tel and Johnson.

Man City already agreed terms with the player. Probably haggled it down £10m or so but he was off. Deal collapsed when the charges came out.

It was a joke but regardless has been shit since. I reckon his next move is Saudi or Turkey

Not entirely correct...no enquiry from us during Ange's reign or from any other club according to Parrish , the release clause did it's job.

It was only during close season when the Scum went in hard trying to adjust the repayment requirements (without success) then moving onto other targets that we saw an opportunity to jump in and hijack the move.

Our actions turned out to be pure folly, a complete and utter waste of time, as would be the disastrous possible revisting of the MGW situation....therefore expect us to bid in the not too distant future.
:ange-facepalm2:

You are probably correct in the last part there, I don’t think we can afford another public shaming over a transfer in this window, I doubt Levy would even entertain us going back in for MGW for this reason, even if he is the player we really should be moving heaven and earth to get.

For this to be classed a superb window, where we have improved the first XI and addressed depth issues, we still need to sign a LWF, #10/CAM and cover for LCB/LB.

Takai is clearly not the LCB/LB (Frank has stopped mentioning him), and we should be all over Hincapie (if he has a release clause) . It would allow us to drop Takai, Davies and Dragusin from the CL squad without having any depth issues.

Levy has got himself into the position where it is Savio or bust at LWF. I think most of us have over inflated Savio's level a little, but ultimately he will be a barometer of success for Levy now. We need to overpay for him, probably £70m. But it is not that much more than what we paid for Ndomblele, Solanke and Richy and is what we were prepared to go to for Eze. So just do it. And quickly. I do still expect a big season from Odobert, and him and Savio as our LWFs will be great. Not sure where that leaves Brennan Johnson and Mathys Tel. A sensible club might have sold (or not bought) one of them to help fund a seriously good #10 earlier in the summer.

CAM/#10 is more complex. Lots of targets mentioned, but none the complete article: Paz, Akliouche, Khannouss, Elliot. Personally, at this stage, I'd take any of the four as long as we get it done this week. Paz looks physically stronger but a little rougher around the edges than the silkier Akliouche. Can't help but feel that Khannous, might fit our needs most as more of a passer with a very high technical level, even if less developed and more potential. Also think this is the perfect opportunity to see what Donley can do with a run in the team. Get him a dozen games under his belt as the main man and maybe he'll outshine all these sexier, foreign names. What I think we need in a #10 is the equivalent of Maddison, but someone who is not made of glass. Predominantly a passer who can drop deep to help orchestrate play, whilst having the creativity in the middle and final thirds to unlock / activate our WFs.

When everyone is fit we will have serious options, but that does underline the importance ot get at least one #10 this week!

STs: Richarlison / Solanke / Tel
WFs: Kudus / Savio / Odobert / Kulusevski / Johnson / Tel / Solomon
#10s: Maddison / (one of Paz, Akliouche, Khannouss, Elliot) / Kulusevski / Kudus / Odobert
Other the Donley stuff I agree with what you’ve said.
