Gray is a CM
Davies and Takai aren’t PL or CL level.
Danso plays RCB

If we don’t have a rotation option for VDV, we are rank amateurs who refused to learn anything from the last 2 years.
I think you'd find quite a lot of teams in the CL with co-efficients around or above ours who have no more than 4 PL/CL type level CBs . Davies, when he's been called upon, has played very well at LCB.

I think the hardest thing in football is to buy a good attacker. I think that's doubly difficult when you take the player from another league.

You're right about the players you mention, but they're not goal scorers.

Salah is the obvious exception, took off at Roma and then continued to take off in the PL.

Lookman is a good player but I do worry that he's a little too lightweight. I think exactly the same about Simons too. Not sure they're the correct physical profile.

People only really only say this because he's 5'9 and looks small when in reality he was in the 94th percentile for offensive duels won and 93rd percentile for aerial duels won last season - he's beating a lot of taller defenders in the air because of his agility and physicality, he's a ball carrying winger/forward (like Kudus but not as strong) those players don't get pushed off the ball easily.

I get your point but the thing is this guy has already played PL football and Championship football, this league isn't new to him - players namely attackers who normally come from other leagues take a while to settle because the physicality and the pace surprises them not to mention the pressure, you can't even put Lookman with other players coming into the Prem as a newbie cause he's been around here before.

Mainoo won't play many minutes this season. They've no Europe so only one game a week. They play only 2 central midfielders because of Almiron persisting with that 3-4-2-1 system where they've signed Mbeumo and Cunha to play as the 2 behind Sesko which means Bruno will nearly always be playing in the double pivot. You can't have a double pivot of Bruno and Mainoo, it doesn't work! So the only times Mainoo has a chance of minutes is when Bruno is playing in the front 3 (means only 2 of Sesko, Cunha, Mbeumo, Mount, Zirkzee can be on the field at the same time) or if Bruno is injured (he's never injured).

Mainoo will be lucky to start any league games this year. He'll only start the early cup rounds like tonight if they rest bruno. He's not stupid, he knows that. Its a world cup year so he's going to want a move. United are worse than even we are in the market so they could easily let him go cheap if he's forcing their hand. Otherwise they've a depreciating asset who's not playing any games, not happy and going to miss out on the world cup further depreciating his stock.

Yeah but they will take a longer term view of a young player and hope they are in Europe eventually

Let it go, Mainoo is going nowhere

I'm not sure if that's the case. I think he could go.

If he's not playing and unhappy then are they potentially opening the door to having their next Sancho/Garnacho problem? Its almost a certainty that he's going to get little to no minutes with them under Amorim which means he has no chance of being selected for the world cup. For a player who broke onto the scene 2 years ago and was starting for England in euro 2024, thats a very hard reality to accept. He'll push for the move and it could get toxic if he stays

And yet no player we are linked to is open to anything, even those on relatively low wages at infinitely lesser clubs. It's just freakish.

I tend to agree with Don Pedro here. Fernandes will always play under Amorim which means Mainoo is the odd man out. I am pretty sure they have to balance the books at some point so selling an academy product also eases their PSR. Mainoo started for England in the 2024 final. He needs to be playing week in week out at the highest level to ensure he is part of the squad for the world cup. I think he could engineer a move but sadly I don't think we will be on the list of clubs he would potentially move to.
