Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I don’t understand this ‘the club will say ‘we tried’ and thst will be enough to sustain the fans!’

It doesn’t at all, it only serves to infuriate fans even further, trying and failing only makes fans angrier.

The club would see this online and across media there’s no way they think ‘At least people will see we tried and that’s positive!’ There’s no way they think that.

Of course the club could be trying and failing to its hearts content I just don’t believe they think failure will reflect well because they’ve shown effort.

They’re not completely stupid. Not trying would leave a calmer fanbase than the MGW/Eze fiascos
Totally agree. There is no grand conspiracy, we're just rubbish at identyfying targets and going all out to get them. Everything seems to be half hearted and on the hoof. Its all about market opportunities at any given time , there is never a plan. Its mistaking lacklustre incompetence for a conspiracy theory.

Good to know that Simons is the final "we tried" boss to tide us over til the end of the window. Couldn't bear the suspense any longer.
If that rumour is even true I think it’s just his camp trying to smoke out a Chelsea gazump, he’s been trying to get there all summer

There's a reason you always see those shows on Sky Sports where they are tracking all the activity just before the transfer window closes. Not sure I completely understand why, but things do seem to shake out late in the windows. To me, it looks like poor planning, but it could also be that teams wait for things to develop that never come together and then pivot too late. I think that's the case with Spurs. I think, too, teams get too much aligned with certain agencies and agents and lose flexibility. That's my worry with Paratici. I think he has blinders on and doesn't see opportunity outside the areas he is comfortable with. At any rate, I'm guessing a lot of time gets wasted chasing deals that were never possible to begin with.

Yea and they are comfortable with this continued incompetence because it keeps the hordes placated.

Didn’t you get the memo?!

You’re supposed to leave common sense at the door before entering here!

Get with the program!

The majority of our fanbase have been groomed by ENIC over the last quarter of a century

I would suggest that this is just the kind of shite they'll believe and be placated by

But like even if you do believe they tried or they didn’t the only thing that matters is getting the deal done,

My point is I don’t believe the club thinks fans will feel better about the fact that ‘we tried’ because it’s clearly not the ‘trying hard’ and failing only makes everyone angrier than if it all happens behind closed doors and none of us are any wiser

Towards the end of the Inside Spurs video I posted earlier, Jay Bothroyd said Brentford identified squad requirements and transfer targets 18 months in advance!

Could go some way to explaining Thomas Frank’s comments earlier in the window!

My opinion is that we had targets lined up that, pre-Maddison injury, would have covered our first team weaknesses quite nicely, clearly we had Kudus earmarked to sort out the right wing, MGW would have been a perfect 8/10 upgrade and then we had half of July and all of August to make a decision on a LW/CB. My real issue is that there seems to have been virtually no contingency planning beyond our 2 primary targets in Kudus/MGW. All of our pursuits since have this air of being targets the club thinks the fans expect them to target, but with a myriad complications to getting a deal over the line, Savinho with the ever-growing transfer fee and contingency on Rodrygo moving to City, Paz and his grossly inflated valuation plus RM ambitions, Eze who had had the gooners in his ear all summer.

We seem to have very intentionally avoided more "doable" transfers (Akliouche is staring us in the face on an easy package re fee/wages, BEK is a very Odobert level signing of a player who can cover while Maddison is injured and be his depth and understudy for the last couple years of Madds' prime) in favour of getting a "wow" factor target and may have left it too late now to even get 2 "doable" targets in for the LW/AM slots, even if you accept the idea that Tel/Odobert/Kudus/Johnson is adequate depth for the wings this season there's simply no excuse for having not got a BEK type deal done as soon as Madds' injury was confirmed with a view to getting a Simons/Eze big money deal done as well. Pool, Chavs and Arse don't let £20-40m high potential young signings get in the way of shelling out £60-100m on big money players, why can we seemingly only buy that profile of player or strengthen the first team with big money signings in one window rather than doing a mix of both like every other top club?
