Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Honestly, i think we get this type of noise at the end of every transfer window and it rarely comes off.

Look at the CL squad list, right now it's full:

Now, let's say we sign one more defender, Ben Davies could be left out of the CL squad but in terms of another attcking player, Kulusevski is already left out, as is Maddison. Kulusevski will be fit again in time to be knocking on that door. I get people will debate loaning Tel or Odobert but it doesn't seem realistic, especially not with this much time left.

Maaaaybe a defender but Frank flat out denied that today so who knows how likely that is.

Yeah if I had to guess I'd say we're done with incomings

Tel loan.

Completely realistic.

I like odobert but I think there’s a chance we loan him out. He’d come back a better player if he played 30 plus games for someone this season.
They should get enough minutes from the bench. There might be enough weaker champions league games and cup games where odobert can start on one wing and tel on the other. I read somewhere, maybe on here, that this is how they played in the french international youth teams.

Also I love how Odobert sounds like the name of aa medieval English Monk LOL

I just can’t live with a Tottenham Hotspur winger with such little ball skill. We buy jose dominguez (who my uncle called; Catherine Wheel coz he spun around in circles a lot)

We sign Chris Waddle who had mid 90s skills in the 80s he was so ahead of his time
we sign Chris Jones
We sign David Ginola who won pfa player if the year in a team that finished bottom half
And countless other classy wingers that get you off your seat

We don't sign someone who can't dribble, can't beat a man, it goes without saying he's quite one footed, poor passer, can't shoot from distance, can't cross (for the love of God: A winger who can't cross!?). can he even switch the play to the other wing?
Anyway, he gets me worked up. In Spain, lots of clubs have a DNA about them (Betis - skillfull, Vallecano -gritty, Bilbao - all basque, barca - tiki taka, majorca -flamboyant, etc). for a lot of clubs it's the only thing they can cling to since winning trophies is locked up by the usual few. I don't think many English clubs do have a DNA. Spurs definitely do have one. Everyone knows it up and down the land

And Brennan Johnson does not have the Spurs DNA

He can come on as a sub though :angehug:

Bro, he's not a winger. Johnson is a wide poacher. It's like playing Lineker out wide so you don't have to play 4-4-2.

If you really read that quote back, it doesn’t make sense.

The games not about winning and losing?

It’s about glory? Surely glory comes in winning?

Then we are told to go out and beat the lot. But the game isn’t about winning?

I’d suggest an attacker that scores as many goals as Johnson does is the very epitome of glory. Who really fucking cares if he dribbles past three men and nutmegs the keeper to do it? Did you care when he sclaffed in the winner in Bilbao?

This need for skilful wingers that contribute maybe half a dozen goals and assists a season twists my melon.

25 goals 18 assists since he arrived.

I don't even think we were ever even trying to sign Savinho tbh. More likely his agent was cooking that up the whole summer to pressure city into more minutes/money.

We needed a 10 and put all our recruitment resources in every time for MGW, Eze, and Simons... Also think we find out later we've been talking to Simons a lot longer than this week.

The tweet has answered his own question....

That's how you handle it.... As player return from injury they can help take the weight in the domestic fixtures during the 2 match CL weeks (thus keeping the CL guys that little bit fresher for the games only they can play).

Depth..... (It's just a diff. twist on what the Chavs did last year by naming diff. players in their Conf.Lg squad).

It's not like some of our primo players are gonna kick up a fuss if they have to skip a league cup tie or (eg) Leeds away in order to be fresh for a CL game.

If we need one more foreign CL spot; I'd be tempted to take Kinski out knowing we still have Austin as CT.

Then we completely re-asses in Jan when 1) Frank will know his players even better and 2) we can see who else needs a loan and how all our cup runs are panning out.

And a team with Kudus and Xavi replacing Son and Maddison doesn't need dribbles and take-ons from that other player in that same kind of way. They need width, runs in behind and finishing.

Next thing you know you'll be saying goals are relatively important in football matches. Sarcasm obviously!

The criticism of Johnson is idiotic. He's not costing us two goals for each one he scores.

It's stubborness because people aren't seeing what they want to see, when they should be seeing what there actually is.

Johnson will likely evolve this season and we will start seeing goals fly in from longer range and after cutting in off that left wing. He's never going to be a 1v1 wizard but we have people for that and he will definitely be able to take a touch to shift it round someone to finish or cross to a high level.

Gotta be honest... Bollocks to invoking that quote just to stick the boot into the lad that scored the winning goal in a Euro cup final to achieve GLORY.

It answers the question if we assume we don't add anyone else or we add a defender and Ben Davies comes out of the CL squad.

If we add someone else..... Drop Kinski.

Like you said Davies <> New defender is an easy solution too.

So is LW in <> Tel or Odo................. If one prefers not to drop Kinski.

I just don't think it need to be a big issue........ Other than we're probably not making the most of our wage output; but it's pretty low anyway so, honestly, who cares....?

A top club does not give a starting position in the team to someone out of gratitude for past heroics.
I also don't want to go to the other extreme like Real Madrid fans do and shit on their own players,
He can have a place on the bench as a supersub while we wait for him to develop basic football skills. he might be a late bloomer!
