This. It is why Brighton function so well. They know when to sell (which is helped by always having a succession plan for every player). Dortmund were also great at this up until a few years ago, and have slipped in the BL since.

Hell, it isn't even about selling for big fees. It is about knowing when to sell a player so you can get at least a decent fee.

This is what Fabio/Lange/whoever has to take charge of and establish. We need a sporting plan that does include selling players with some regularity. Because we know that the ownership will not supplement us with their own money.

The thing is, we need to stop thinking we are Brighton or dortmund but that’s how levy wants to operate. We are one of the top 10 richest clubs in the world. We should act like one but Levy refuses to. He doesn’t have the ambition levels of the other 9 teams in that top ten.

I'd say there is little point in looking at what positions Spurs need to strengthen until Angelos has gone and a new head-caoch has assessed the present players thoroughly, which is why I was so keen on letting Angelos go months ago. People keep saying that Spurs need WFs who will take players on but Spurs do actually have them somewhat, but it's clear Ange doesn't want them to take on their full backs. He wants them to get wide, make half a yard and put in crosses at the first opportunity or make space for the inverted FBs. I wonder why though because it's not like Spurs are flooding the box to get on the end of those crosses nor have the air dominance for it.

It's all just confusing messages and poorly coached tactical play. No player is really going to fulfil their potential if they can't play to their strengths. But Angelos believes his philosophy and system is more important than a player’s strengths and weakness'. It isn’t.

I could even live with acting like Dortmund and Brighton but we clearly, like everything, do a pound shop version of it. Levy got enthused by the data led approach because everyone was banging on about Brighton and Brentford 3 years ago. But they do theirs via a betting company and are miles ahead of ours which appears to be that dweeb Lange with a spreadsheet. So its classic Levy, cheap, half arsed and just going with the prevailing thought at the time.

Dude, take your Spurs coloured glasses off... you are making up transfer fees.

Tel is 50m (that's the price Bayern have set), we don't have to pay it but I doubt Bayern accept anything less than 45m especially as they still owe us money on Kane. The Cardoso fixed agreement is 25m, Danso is 20m so in total this lot will cost us 90m. There is not a hope in hell of us getting 40m for Richarlison... we will be lucky to get 25m, Soloman will be around 15m and then the only other player we are likely to sell will be Romero at around 60m. In total, that's around 100m so 10m profit which will be used to pay off our net transfer debt which stands at 230m. If you want any other players in, then be prepared to let your valuable assets leave... e.g. Porro 35-40m, Vicario 20-25m. I am hoping we can mug off some middle east club to buy Son for a ridiculous fee. Every other club does this except us.
Im jsut reporting prices I have seen. Tel will not be 50m there are countless reports saying bayern are more than happy to negotiate the fees down. 40, is the price I have seen quoted a few times so again I am going off reports. Solomon again quoted 20m by a few clubs sources...

I think that we outright need to act like Dortmund or Brighton, just on steroids.

Because yes, we are one of the 10 richest clubs on the planet. But we know that our owners are not going to supplement that with their own money. We cannot buy just for the sake of it. So we need to not only have a plan for our recruitment, but for selling as well.

Which is the case for 99% of clubs in the world. Including some of the richest.

Funny enough a year or so ago there was a big call on here to act and buy more like Dortmund.

Just do either strategy better.

You can’t wait till the end of the summer to decide what players you want. Most of the best ones will have moved or will have decided to stay at their current club by then.

The whole point of having a director of football set up is that that recruitment is not the pervade of the coach anyway. Obviously there’s a wrinkle with Paratici coming back but we need to to be working on signings now.

Whoever the coach is we need to sign a midfielder with real physicality to win duels, a right winger who can dominate their flank, and most likely a CB to replace Romero.
