Transfers The Summer Transfer Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We were certainly in discussion with Wharton him when at Blackburn, but he decided to go to Palace, possibly because of assured playing time.

And from his POV not a bad decision, although its pure speculation as to how much game time he's have got at Spurs in competition with the likes of Bentancur and Bissouma one of whom he might have supplanted.
Wharton went to Palace in the Feb for £18M and we spent £40M on Gray a few months later. Wharton is 3 years older. Only time will tell who will be better.

Was the Tel deal not a loan with a set option to buy? £45m I think, I know a lot of fans aren’t keen on him, IMO he has talent, only turned 20 so there is room for improvement.
Think set option was around 50m but spurs have already made it clear they aren't going to exercise it. Bayern will accept 45m. Spurs trying to get him for closer to 35m.

The Sane stuff is just Spurs letting Bayern know they have other options and will pull out if Bayern don't lower the price.

Why didnt City want Modric, Why didnt City want Bale, Why didnt Bayern sign Berbatov or Son?

Why did Monaco want rid of Klinsmann? Why didnt Madrid want Van Der Vaart?
Let's not play the fool. City had Sane before and are selling Grealish this summer. A Sane return on a free would make sense and they could offer him the same wages grealish was on.

City are not interested. They've moved on. They want bigger and better. We should be the same. We should be all in for Eze or Mbeumo!

Players have agency.

So if he moves to a PL side and wants guaranteed playing time as a midfielder, that probably wasn't Spurs.

Gray at 18 happy to move to a Pl club with no guarantee of playing time - played a lot in his first season (but due to injuries to other players, not planned) mainly in a position (CB) that he's never played before. Would Wharton have been happy to play CB for Spurs ?

1. They are trying to get him to sign a new contract.
2. They have let their side grow old together so are trying to bring the age of the squad down so resigning a 29 yr old not really on their agenda. Very different for us.

I get the concerns upto a point but if we plough what we save on transfer fees for Sane to get Eze as well then all of a sudden our attack is a very different proposition.
My concern js the wages. Will Levy sign 2/3 players this window who all want 200k+ a week. Sane will want at least 250k a week.

Eze will want 200k. Romero when signing a new contract will want to be the highest paid player at the club so do we bring him up to Sane's wages.

It breaks the current model. I'm just being realistic. Sane will take up a spot and levy won't be willing to go in big again on wages.

If they are trying to bring the age of their squad down, why are they selling Tel? Other than he wants to go obviously.

Tel will get more chances at Bayern without Sane.

City not Bayern in response to the question why City dont want him back.
Yep I see it now. Sorry

Tel hasn't shown anything to be worth buying we need ready made first team players not more punts

All 3 of our young wide players have been poor this season, Moore , odobert and tel.
But Out of the 3 young wide players we've seen this season Tel has looked the closest to being ready at premier league level imo .

It's just the price tag needs seriously working on.
We'll see how Yang min gets on

Hopefully this season on 38 points has woken him the fuck up to the fact it’s not 2015 and you can’t survive in the PL without some top earning forwards.

Exactly my point. Gray may look back in 3 years time and wish he'd signed for Brentford instead. And we, as a top 6 club with significant revenues, might want to consider spending a bit more on players once established and be prepared to spend £70/£80m on players like Wharton.

But I guess it worked with Bale, Dele, Dier (to name a few) so maybe Levy never will change.

Or closer in time, Bergvall looks like £8.5m well spent - and not a 3 year wait

We have to bring this guy in.

Non-negotiable.

Covers LW, AM, SS.

Bring Eze, Sane, Tel.

Then decide what we are doing with Richy and replace him if he goes.

Completely changes our attacking unit into a CL and PL level attack.

CF: Solanke, Richy (or new), Tel
LW: Eze, Odobert, Tel, Moore
RW, Sane, Kulusevski, Odobert, Moore
AM: Maddison, Eze, Kulusevski

And we still have budget for a CM and Hincapie to cover LCB and LB

1 problem, he wants to win everything

We should but we aren’t - Beggars can’t be choosers

Sane is FREE - Mbeumo is 50M or more - which transfer do you think Levy is more interested in? FREE bruv

Apparently Eze interest perhaps because he has a release clause that only ECL clubs can unlock so maybe Levy thinks he’s getting a deal.

Yeah that set of attackers has everything you could want. Pace and trickery in Sane, Eze and Odobert. Creativity in Maddisson, Kulusevski and Moore and it's future proof with 3 or 4 of those with 10+ years left in the game.
