Transfers The Summer Transfer Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

How fucking stupid were Eze's Agents to allow him to be locked into release clause of 60m that has to be paid in one immediate hit. Also seems counter intuitive for Palace in that it scares off a lot of buyers and may well force him to run his contract down and go for nothing, where if they'd not insisted on the upfront payment, they probably could have got more for him than 60m
It’s dumb as fuck for ese but not for palace

Palace can accept whatever fee they want paid exactly how they want up til the clause

They only lose control at 68mil up front which is a great deal for them

He never answers my attempts to drag more information from him beyond his usual standard soundbites.

Unless he thinks he thinks he has a gotcha on me.

But it's a genuine question for not just him.

Every transfer window we have 'show ambition' or 'get in some quality' but no-one ever really elaborates on how the club should show ambition. I'd argue you never really know if the club have shown ambition until you have hindsight.

Ndombele was considered a big exciting coup when it happened and that turned out shit.

As previously mentioned, Johnson's signing was met with mostly anger but his goals helped win us a trophy.

We hear cries of spending big money, then others complain we overpay with fees.

These transfer threads are never going to have a consensus. We can't adopt every strategy that is put forward by different individuals with different ideas to build a squad. There's also the matter of people taking every single tweet as gospel and getting irate/excited depending on the made up news.

Can always rely on John to stir the pot though with his cries for ambition and purchases to match the ticket prices. Obviously he'll also...

All points well made.

For me, it's about progression of the squad, in each transfer window, so that we can say that the players that we have available this time, give us more than we had last time i.e. an enhanced starting 11, a bench with players to change games, not a bench full of kids or spares that we haven't managed to sell yet.

It's more about a gut instinct than hard numbers, facts, and figures. Last 12 months, we signed Solanke (who I didn't think would score enough goals and was over-priced - he's really only had one good season in the Prem, so that's what I based that view on), Danso (who I'd personally never heard of at the time and was not an upgrade on anything we already had in the first 11, just an injury stand-in, let's be honest), and a bunch of kids for the future, some of whom had to be played because of injuries. So I had little expectations with us keeping up with teams that bought more quality starters. We all know the rest.

We need to stop signing players for the future (like Tel even, as he's done nothing really, and shown nothing, for another £30m gone from the funds). We are now in the CL, have a trophy (so that no longer puts off players from coming to Spurs for fear of never winning anything), and we have good finances, apparently. I'm expecting transfers that improve the starting 11 and the bench. It's not our job to name or find them, but I'm sure we'll know, by each signing, if they fit the bill, if we will be better for it.

Finally, we need to stop taking big risks on hopefuls (like NDombele etc) who have no Prem experience. Playing in the Prem is different, and if we are looking at players who have never played in the Prem, a proper analysis of their suitability needs to happen, else we waste a load more money, like we have every season as far back as I can remember.

CP had the same headlock on Zaha....... They lost him for free.

Yeah it is

BM bought Harry to go into their first team
We bought Vic to go into our first team
We bought Cuti to go into our first team

Goons bought Rice to go into their first team

I could go on forever here right ?
Fair enough.

To me there still no hard rule about what signing would make fans happy.

We spent £60m on Solanke, who helped us win a trophy, but I dare say that isn't the ambition most want.

Most people weren't really impressed with the VDV signing but he's now one of our gems.

My point is that we all build our squads differently and we'll never agree.

There's more chance of John ( Tottenham Massive Tottenham Massive ) actually contributing some actual player targets.

When they were signed they were on top of the rage wages at the time. Both VVD and Alison were record signings for their position.

Wirtz is the same. Record signing and top top range wages.

But you knew that as well
Not a million years ago, we regularly finished above Liverpool and the Gooners (for 8-9 seasons I think). Then somehow, they are signing £100m players and stretching the gap to us, having easily overtaken us, whilst we made a lot of poor decisions.

Catching up is going to be really tough for us now, sadly, especially with our wage structure and the type of players we appear to be in the market for.

Salah was not on top wages being spent by City/Chelsea or United at the time. He was on about 120k a week, top players were 160k+ at that time, with Hazard being on 220k or so De Bruyne on 175k, Pogba 200k.

Salah's wages were closer to Lloris' than those players.

Allison was on 90k when he signed, less than Lloris, less than half of De Gea....

Mate - you're having a mare here.

Liverpool just won the league buying players with wages of less than 150k a week. MacAllister, Nunez, Gravenberch, Gakpo - not one 'elite'

Woolwich bought players on 200k+ a week the last two seasons and won fek all.

Also:

Fellow "elite" clubs that the "elite" Man C recently purchased from:

Wolves, Lyon, Frankfurt, Lens, Palmerias, Troyes, R.Villadoli, Wolves, Rennais,

Fellow "elite" clubs that the "elite" LFC recently purchased from:

Leverkusen, Benfica, Puskas AFC, Valencia, Liebzig, Brighton, Stuttgart, Enidhoven, Fulham, Aberdeen,

Arbitrary, fan-concocted rules in being arbitrary shocker.
