I'd like to see Davies start more games at LB. His ability to take a touch under pressure and play a left footed pass up the line to our LWF was such a basic improvement on Spence playing there. Made a big difference to our shape and pattern of play.
I mean, with all due respect to Ben Davies, in a perfect world no, Tottenham aren't starting Ben Davies in the year 2026.

However, in the current predicament, absolutely yes. He should be starting every game if Udogie isn't available. And when Udogie is available, if he isn't performing then he should be benched for best available alternative. Rightly or wrongly, that is Ben Davies.

Instead of losing his first choice left back and so doing the obvious thing and playing the next best left back, Frank has taken the approach of playing the supposed next best full back (though personally I'd say that's arguable) in Spence.

This has also had a negative impact on the right, as Porro hasn't received a reasonable amount of rotation and is now playing like the burnt out husk of a player that's been flogged to death for 3 years straight but idiotic managerial decisions. It's a wonder he hasn't succumbed to injury and for that physical endurance alone they guy has my respect.

Football in essence is a really simple game, when Managers completely lose the plot you often see them doing more and more bizarre things, playing a right back out of position persistently when you have a legit, albeit deeply unsexy, left back right there, is bonkers.

The wild chopping and changing of the frontline from game to game is also a bad sign, none of the players have any rhythm or form as a result of it.

Ben Davies would have been better than an overrated or unduly egotistical Spence last night.

Totally agree, I just think it's a pathetic state of affairs that we as a club are in the position that he's our best available left back right now by a long shot.

It's not a dig at Ben Davies, but his best years are well behind him, and even in his best years his peak was steady and reliable.

Part of me wants to lay into Spence that he should be embarrassed that Ben Davies is more capable than him in 2026, but then I remember he is being played out of position and has been for 90% of the last 18 months, he's also a victim of the abysmal squad management from the club, however poor his attitude may appear to be.

I like Davies, probably rate him higher than most seem to - though I dont think he is a world beater

I said when he played the other day just how transformative it is to have a left footed LB

Its so bloody obvious, even a basically competent player can make such a difference

So why the fuck have we ignored the position for YEARS now?!

They'll go down like flies now, you watch. They'd rather be at home than out there on the pitch playing shitty Frankball, having to see and listen to him, and getting (rightly) booed off by the fans.

Its a bit of what happened with Ange too - overplayed players, got them injured - which meant he overplayed who was left - and what happened to them!?

Tel, Xavi, Richarlison*, Palinha, VDV, Porro - how long can they keep up with the games? Porro already looks burned out

*How is he actually fit still? Is this a record?

He's saving his injury for just before the summer window so we can't offload him.

tbf Porro has put up ironman minutes for the last 2 years in a position that basically has you sprinting a half marathon every game. If there's anyone that deserves to be burnt out its him.
