The day we pay whatever a player like Saka is reputedly eseming is the day we buy someone or have someone as objectively good.

Marmoush is no Saka equivalent in my book so any salary would need to reflect that, and if he wee available it would then be a proper question.

If the club don't value Marmoush as per his current salary then don't waste time pondering whether to sign him, it's simple. My point is the club can afford to pay that sort of salary for a player.

IIRC Havartz is on something like £280k per week, and the goons have other players on over £200k per week. So they're fishing in a bigger pond than our club, but aren't much or any richer as per revenue.

It's not just Saka that earns a lot more than our club seems to be prepared to play for players.

I think there is much more to it than paying obscene wages just for the sake of seeking to be competitive.

We will have to increase that for him to move to what looks like a sinking ship.

There is also a second butterfly effect. I have little doubt that Romero has a "top paid at the club clause" currently and that's how we got him to sign, and I think VDV would command similar if we are to offer him an increased deal.

This would be monumental deal when considering all the above.

I never knew a club where a CB was the highest earner. If what you say about Romero is true the negotiators at club have shot themselves in the foot. I think Simons is on the same salary as Romero though?

Surely playing is what matters to a player?
If he's gonna be a bench warmer, a straight swap on the same money or even a slight drop isn't a problem?
It's not like he's spending 90% of his income on a mortgage and can't afford it.

It’s never so simple as a player in one league will always perform a certain way in another league.

How a player performs depends on many many things, manager, formation, role, teammates, fit for league. Some players can look amazing in a certain role if they are the perfect fit but swap them to another team and they don’t look the same player. Besides the obvious generational players, You never know if a player is a sure thing unless they have sustained success in many different roles/teams/leagues.

Same goes for managers.
