£35M for Johnson looks like an insane deal, and also a shit one. Simply because Johnson is amazing at scoring, but shit at absolutely anything else, on top of the fact we paid around £50M for him (if I'm not mistaken). I hated his ability on the pitch, but I'll always have the fond memory of his goal in Bilbao, and I hope he gets the reception that he deserves when he comes back to The Lane.

Johsnon again OLE OLE!! :johnsonshh::johnsonear:

What was Lineker, Klinsman or even Greaves good at, outside of scoring goals?

I remember Vinai saying that we need to be better as a club at moving players on at the right time (which we do).

Hopefully moving Johnson on is the start of that.

(We do need to get some attackers in who can score some goals though)

Johnson barely gets minutes, we could sell him and not notice anyway

I would like to think it means we have someone quality lined up to replace him, but I wont get my hopes up!

Fair point. My thinking is that if johnson was good enough, then he'd be playing ahead of xavi simons or a young odobert at left wing.

Hope it means we use the money to get a true first choice left wing starter

It makes zero sense for Palace to make a permanent move in January, with all the uncertainty surrounding Glasner.

And the risk of a misfit between a manager and a player is significantly higher for an enigma like Johnson, who doesn't easily lend himself to categorization.

Wide poacher (?) is an extremely rare archetype that few managers could properly utilize in their setups, so there would be a very real chance for Glasner's successor to have little use for him.

Actually positive that we’re getting some money in for a player early, instead of this dragging out all window haggling over a couple mil and then signing a last minute cheap replacement. No excuse not to get players in early if we’re already moving players on

Could be they are trying to show Glasner he will be backed and should stay past this season...

Could be when he leaves theyll find someone similar, and are building a squad for some consistency...

It makes perfect sense. They didn't back him in the summer, so he didn't sign a new deal.
Backing him now may make him reconsider.

Unless you’re including Kulu and Maddison, there’s no one outside of Xavi who is a natural gifted playmaker in our squad. Porro is probably currently our best and he’s having a poor season
Djed can create chances with his running from LB...bet you even Micky could if played there.

If Porro stopped acting a twat, focused on his footy...and Kudus didn't clog the RW...bet he'd find his touch again.

I hate him, but Bentancur used to have a good run and pass in him. We've seen his young MF partners, Archie & Berg (even Pape), able to produce offensively when given license to do so.

Kudus, Muani, Odobert...they've got it in them.

Sure, our squad is well below par and the players' confidence is at an all-time low after Ange & Frank, but we still have enough quality to produce ways more than we've been doing since August.

This must mean we have a senior forward or winger coming in

I was about to say the same.

I think this is actually quite a positive sign. I am 99% sure we never sell Johnson so easily with Levy still here. 25 years of his ownership told us we always struggled to sell players especially to other PL clubs.

So this is quite a big sign of things changing.

The other thing is, I really didn't rate Johnson at all, and it's very reassuring that the club have also identified he isn't good enough.

I have to give Frank some props here for so quickly seeing Johnson for what he is.

Glasner is a brilliant manager, I have zero doubt that if Brennan goes there fully fit & focused, the jeffe will get him to score a fair few. He'll play him up top with Mateta in an old-fashioned big man-little man combo act...at least while Sarr is at AFCON. And even when Sarr is back, I'm sure Glasner will be clever enough to realise Brennan gotta stay away from the touchline and as in the box as possible.

Anyway, good luck to the kid and thanks for the goals.
