Transfers The Winter Transfer Thread - 25/26

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

There's so many examples of "they shouldn't have stuck with this guy" vs. "good thing they stuck with this guy" that I don't think they're worth much anymore.

But I think if you believe we have a midtable quality squad, expecting a new manager to come in and get anything better than midtable results is unrealistic. Frank is an experienced Prem manager who did extremely well at Brentford, mostly prior to every Prem club becoming gigarich. I think he at least deserves a season and a half to bring in his players. If we're still bad at this time next year, then we can have discussions to sack him.
We’ve got a flirting with relegation GK, top 4 defence, bottom half/flirting with relegation midfield (without Kulu and Maddison) and bottom half/flirting with relegation attack.

Scouting and acquisition team fully engaged. All cylinders. Monitoring everybody and everything.

This is their time.

They are all older than him and I don’t think they will be better than him when he’s at his peak.

How good was Elliot Anderson at 19?

MGW was in the Championship still?
Think Wharton is more our need than Anderson, right now, a Carrick like ball playing CM.

Anderson might well prove decent cover, as all the big teams go after him, if we go hard for Wharton right now (or May), if not we must expect an elite CM type to come in from overseas.

Still think Garner and Scott are good enough upgrades, both HG, there is not much between all four IMO (Anderson is peaking now, is my take and may regress by 25 given his more stocky build, Wharton has more growth IMO but his physiology makes him a big gamble, I’d like us to offer £70m rising to £75m type thing and test their position, if we have this £150m + £35m Johnson…). Then get Garner/Scott.

No minutes for Eze again.

That hatrick has really shaded over how poor a signing he’s been. Genuinely only signs to stop us getting him.

I tend to disagree. It's about having quality throughout the squad. Not everyone can play every week and it is up to the manager to ensure their players are fit and peaking at key moments in the season. Unfortunately, Woolwich now have have a very deep squad. Losing Saka or Gabriel for 4 or 5 games does not really impact them like it used to. When Man U had Berbatov, Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez they did not all always get minutes. Similar when they had Cole, Yorke, Solskjaer and Sheringham. It''s why they won the PL and CL multiple times. When Woolwich beat us 4-1 back in November they were missing Havertz, Gyokeres, Martinelli and Odegaard from their front 4 options. In previous years that would have somewhat blunted their attack. Unfortunately Eze stepped up that day for them and banged a hat-tirck. If they win the league I am sure they will feel that he was worth every penny.

So we're back in the Spurs feedback loop:

- New manager gets hired in the summer
- Not sufficiently backed in the transfer market
- Struggles because he has to work with a Frankenstein squad without the players he needs
- Don't back him in January because he may be sacked in the summer
- Sack him after he continues to struggle with the Frankenstein squad

Don't you see the problem with this?
Right right right. Let's throw 200m at him so so atleast we can say we backed him. Real smart business

So you're saying you don't want us to sign better players in January!

Rather than strengthen our first XI you'd rather us not spend any money just wing it with what we have! Because we appointed another dud manager!

Jeez man. Our fans never cease to amaze. ENIC's wet dream
I'm trying to think of the best long term solution and right now we are in a big hole and you can't dig yourself out of a hole. I think spending big right now on this coward of a manager would just set us back long term. We have no style of play or any idea how to utilise top players. Simons is the best example, we look better without him because Frank can't use him.

Right now we need to give the young players time and work with them. Then get the right manager. Then see consistent progress. And then spend big! You can't do it backwards! We can try but it doesn't work and it becomes a 10x bigger mess
