Transfers The Winter Transfer Thread - 25/26

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Like we did with MGW?? If a club approaches or offers another teams player a contract that is an illegal approach and likely to result in a fine- clubs should agree a deal before the player is approached though the way agents operate it’s a nonsense these days
I agree that morally they should do as you say, but in practice, the player and their terms are agreed before there is much, if any dialogue between clubs. Not many complaints occur because they all do the same things.

It's a lovely notion but I'm absolutely expecting Bentancur to still be here in 2 seasons time, finding it very difficult to get excited for this signing as I feel it's an incredibly short-term response to injuries that will soon be assuaged by the return of Sarr from AFCON and Bergvall from injury anyway, both of whom do much the same thing on the pitch as Gallagher. I won't deny he is probably a distinct upgrade on our next best player (Sarr or Bergvall IMO) in that role, but frankly I'm more depressed than anything by this transfer as you can definitely write off the possibility of us buying a passing midfielder until we've trimmed the midfield in the summer now.

I will concede his energy and pressing will be a welcome addition in a team that desperately needs individuals showing those qualities, so maybe from that angle it might prove a good transfer, akin to when Parker came in to steady the ship for 'Arry in MF. Fingers crossed.

Definitely can’t see them adding a passing cm until the summer.

Bergvall becomes the question because Frank won’t be here and any sensible coach will re-profile him as an 8 instead of this bollox that Frank has been up to in the 10.

Spurs fans: ‘If we want a player, I wish we would just stump up the money and stop these long drawn out negotiations’

Also Spurs fans: ‘Oh. That feels expensive’

Fuck me. You lot are killing me. 😂

How much younger do you want to go than the age of Bergvall, and Gray?

You jest talking about "getting game time to develop" no PL team does that anymore.

You do know that Bent's is finished for the season?

Thirty five million for a player coming into his prime, eager to impress in a WC year.

Fourteenth placed Spurs not attracting top tier players.

Get off of Football Manager you fool.

For God' s sake we desperately need a passer in midfield. It really isn’t complicated.

Yet this club seems obsessed with signing the same midfield profile every single window. We are genuinely the only club in the Premier League that consistently struggles to recruit a proper deep-lying playmaker. The last time we actually did it was Modrić in 2008 — nearly 20 years ago. How is that even possible?

This isn’t bad luck, it’s lazy scouting and incoherent squad building. You look at this team and see an overload of ball carriers, runners and pressers, and somehow conclude that Conor Gallagher is the solution. How? What problem does that actually solve?

We give Bentancur a new contract for some reason, fail to land Nørgaard, bring Palhinha in on loan, and then decide Gallagher is the midfielder we want. What is the plan here? Why are they so adamant we need the same type of player, what are we trying to do?

What makes it even more baffling is the complete contradiction in recruitment logic. In the summer, the identified target was Gibbs-White — a ball progressor who can receive between the lines and move the game forward. Six months later, we’re settling for Gallagher. Those are not remotely the same profiles, it's fucking ridiculous.

This recruitment team had six full months to assess this squad. Six months watching a midfield that struggles to progress the ball centrally, struggles to control tempo, struggles to play through pressure, and this is the best solution the club can come up with and it's not even a coup, we've been after Gallagher for 2 years.

Fans have every right to be annoyed. Not because Gallagher is a bad player — he’s clearly better than Bentancur at this point — but because he’s the wrong profile. He doesn’t fix the core issue, he adds to the imbalance.

It's incredibly stupid the way this culub is ran and I don't understand why fans lap this nonsense up.

How about waiting those 2 weeks before becoming angry?

There is still time for getting passer. With Benta and Bergvall injuries and with Villa interest we had to act quickly with Gallagher, but it doesnt close the door for other incomings on the midfield.

If we dont buy passer before end of window - that's other story then.

We have been waiting 18 years for a ball progressor, forgive me in thinking that we wont get one in in 2 weeks...

Take it you failed to notice most of our midfielders are fucking injured for most of the rest of the season?

I agree we need a progressive passer too but Gallagher IS an upgrade.

We just need far more than just him. Which we won’t get.

SO WHY DO WE HAVE TO REPLACE LIKE FOR LIKE?

What's the point of buying the same type of midfielder if it's not going go enhance the squad?

People complained about the Palhinha/Bentancur double pivot of doom all season and somehow suddenly bringing Gallagher into the equation is going to make a difference, like what?

It's simply shit and lazy squad building

Don't you bloody shout at me fella. He does enhance the squad though.

Just we definitely need to also buy a passer. It's not that complex, lad.

Ok, so we are all agreed that we need a passing CM. There is always something we desperately need and don't have. Then we change the coach and the thing we desperately need changes.

We are going to change this coach before next season starts. Probably we still need a passing CM but if the new coach is Poch, did he ever play with a progressive passer or deep lying playmaker in his double pivot?

Poch used combinations of Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama, and Moussa Dembele in his double pivot. Occasionally Winks would be there to pass the ball but he was an extra.

At Chelsea he used Caicedo and Gallagher.
