Ive mixed feelings on Gallagher, but over all more positive than negative

On the negative, I agree its another 8, and have real concerns about Bergvall / Sarr / Gray getting time to develop. I suspect loans will be arranged if not now, in the summer.

On the positive, I do think he is an upgrade on Bentancur for sure, I really like that he's HG (a constant issue for us) and a really like that he is a real leader. He WILL drive this team on.

I do wonder what Frank will do with him though, and suspect itll be less than ideal.

For example, we have Tel starting to make LW his own, Simmons beginning to find his feet, and Bentancur injured.

Logic says pair Gallagher with Palinha*. Frank Logic says drop Tel, shut Simmons LW where he isnt effective and play Gallagher as a #10....

*I think the best we've seen Palinha was against Villa, when the tempo was up, chasing pressing everything - paired with Gallagher thats two busy cunts like that in the middle - would be horrible for teams to play against, not a moments respite.....
....If we are ever allowed to play that tempo again

I think we can all agree that barring a miracle Frank isn't going in the near future so with that in mind if we are future planning seeing as we've signed Gallaher on a perm on a 5.5 year contract.

The only way you can justify this is you go out and sign a passer either now or the Summer (preferably now) however we need to sell 3 in the Summer and not sign Palhinha on a perm.

So Bentancur and Bissouma and most probably Sarr because it's doubtful we will be making Europe and back to playing 1 game a week so there's limited mins.

That leaves Gallagher, new passing mid, Gray, Bervall for your double pivot spots, that would probably be acceptable, Maddison and Xavi for the 10 role.

He can enhance our midfield while we all know we need a better passer. Simons showing some form could lessen the need but the good 6's prob not be available till summer

What would help Simons is our players giving him the ball much quicker and having the ability to fizz the ball into him before the defence is set, none of our midfielders can currently do that.

If we could somehow get a passer like Garcia or Neves then you’d look at a potential midfield of..

Ruben Neves Conor Gallagher
Xavi Simons

…and think this looks like a CL level midfield and we’re gonna give a team a tough match in the middle.

Im less convinced we absolutely need a passer, a different coach/system may well have different priorities and needs

I do agree though, a clear out is due...

And in terms of attributes, character, profile etc Gallagher is an excellent player to have in the mix

Under no circumstances should we sell Sarr.

The guy was out best player by a mile pre season and start of the season. Scoring, assisting and looking immense.

The coach then randomly decided to drop him when he was playing well to hopefully play Xavi into form. You should never drop an in form player and he did that which probably pissed Sarr off.

I’ve slated the board recently, however this Gallagher deal getting done in 24 hours wouldn’t have happened under Levy. It would have dragged on for 10 days.

Still think there’s a huge problem on the board, but credit to them here.

That there is exactly what needs to happen. He finds great areas but by the time our blinkered midfielders see him the opposition kill his space. That’s why a midfielder that can see those passes is so important if we are going to improve. It’s a must in this window.

Yeah I think it's defo a good thing - Levy woulda probably turned his nose up at this type of deal cos of the wages. He would've been all over the loan with an option, no doubt, then tried to wrangle a discount.

Thing is, even if we are offering higher wages we need to pick the right players or we'll just end up like Man Utd.

Yeah agree. It’s a fine line. It’s why we need to bring a good DoF in. No fucking about. Get the best one possible who has extensive experience in the English game.

Bentancur hasn't been good enough IMO and this is now his 3rd? significant injury.
I'd sell him in the summer with Gallagher taking his place and the bonus is that he's HG so solves that issue.

How can you say he enhances our midfield lol

You're looking at what we currently have and ignoring what we actually need.

Nope. You're ignoring what I wrote (you know, the bit where I said we do also definitely need a progressive passer). If you can't see how Gallagher enhances our current midfield options, then you have no business discussing football.

I'm definitely not in the mood for dealing with your shit today, so kindly fuck off.

I don’t really see what Sarr gives us that stands out. Who cares what he done pre season. He’s not a guarenteed starter for Senegal. At times I watch him and this goes back to the last couple of seasons where he’s so untidy and slack on the ball and then he does something very good. The poor stuff outweighs the very good stuff. In my opinion he’s an ok at best midfielder and won’t be anything more in his career.
Again we will continue down the path of the likes of him,Gray,Bentancur and Bissouma for far too long when top teams get rid of players that don’t make much or any difference when the play.
We need much better.
