That is a certain level of player, likely starting for a team challenging for things.

Midseason, most teams are not going to sell players that are pivotal to their season's aspirations - sure, Man City have pulled it off - but we are talking about extremely rare situations

As I said, we all know January can be difficult, but we are in such a state that there are definitely players we could bring in that would improve the first team group. And we have two DOF’s being paid a lot of money to do that.

Semenyo was the big splash of the window. Maybe Lange and co really though they had a chance, but once City and Liverpool got involved it was never going to happen.

Still have a bloated squad. Silly to spend money and hand out a 4-5 year contract to another mid player we'll just be looking to offload next season.

Keep the powder dry until the summer and hopefully to Vinai's word, Spurs start offering out big contracts that will attract real difference-makers.

Dude, I’ve been reading that on the various Spurs message boards and in the Spurs Twitterverse since I started following the club.

At this point, these ‘it’s their last window to do something’ posts are laughable. The end is always imminent. Posters predicting. ENIC’s fall have a worse record than even the fucking Jehovah’s Witnesses — and that’s saying something.

Yeah, the top clubs that have UCL standard players and have qualified for the final 24 or are seeded into the final 16 were lining up to sell their best players this morning.

We should definitely try to hijack the Strand-Larsen deal to prove how serious we are!! I’m sure £60m plus £150k per week will do the trick. AmBisHuN!!

Agreed, you’re not gonna get any better at this point in January. We were talking about Sterling and Mateta this afternoon ffs.

Diaby doesn’t really sort our issues on the left hand side, but we might have to just stick with Odobert and Tel there till the summer. I can’t see anyone who’s available to come in now and give us what we need there.

Dude, it doesn’t matte to me who is pro- or anti-ENIC. I’m not anti-ENIC but I want them to sell. I don’t think they’ve been able to keep up with a shifting landscape.

After watching the anti-ownership demonstrations at West Ham and United amongst others, I don’t think there’s a chance that the fans can hound ENIC to sell for short of the price they want. As for relegation, I‘ve said before that only losers sell temporarily distressed assets cheaply. They won’t sell cheaply unless their finances force them to and I don’t see it.
On a related note, I’ve been following the Sheffield Wednesday saga for shits and giggles.
