Transfers The Winter Transfer Thread - 25/26

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Did you forget about the experienced ex Chelsea captain that we signed?

The squad is full. Spurs cannot add foreign players. There was possibility of 2 home grown spots only, but who is going to join without an assurance of playing in Champs League?

The only candidate to be sold in this window was Bissouma, but he is probably more useful playing for us than gambling on a replacement.

Gallagher, Dragusin go into champions league squad. Tough call on Tel vs Bissouma.

Of course, Sterling is still an option as he is a free agent and, fits the home grown list. At this stage in his career, is he more useful than a hungry, keen to impress Tel?

Overall, Spurs have had 2 very good transfer windows now and are building a very very good young squad.

Why are you still here? Thought you'd followed Ange to Forest. In fact you declared yourself a forest fan on their forum you absolute neck

Clever by Romero saying it as it is. But it's a way out the club for him also. He signed a new contract not long ago it'd an easy way out so the club sells him when he runs them down
I don't think clever is a word I'd ever associate with Romero.

As fans we get up in arms over a lack of exciting transfers every window and it's kind of understandable in the heat of the moment, but with a clear head it's generally ridiculous. When the club does go out and splash a load of cash, more often than not it's underwhelming anyway. Look at our big signing of the summer Xavi, it's February and only now is he starting to look somewhat useful on a regular basis. If we'd have signed anyone they'd likely not be bedded in until the injuries are all returned anyway. Plus, you don't just go out and sign someone every time you get an injury, any more than you go and sell someone the moment an injury returns.

Our squad is full, and then some, that half or more are out injured is not something that you can account for.

Romero, as a player, and even more so as Captain, should be level headed and in a way dispassionate enough to take this into consideration.

Perhaps, if he really is ranting at the lack of business, he should elaborate a little on which of his merry mates he'd like to be cut from the squad in order to make way for these new signings he would have liked?

Because it's ok for a bunch of fans on the internet to proclaim that Tel is shite, or Bentancur is shite and perma-crocked, and so can easily be shed from the squad, but is Romero really so callous as to want that? Because if he had put any thought into his words whatsoever then he should realise that this is what it would entail.

Clever? Not a chance.

I can't be arsed going into details of you post or your agenda but whenever people post this sort of stuff (and it rears it's ugly head regularly) I always get the impression that the cited rules only ever apply to Spurs, never to any other clubs.

I know Tay was not the immediate replacement for Pat, I was being sarcastic. The point I was making was that Ray was 33 when he joined Spurs ( older than Pat when he left) .When Ray joined he was not 3 years younger than Pat was when he left.He was actually a bit older.
Yeah, I get it.
Mad to think it was all done under the same coach.
My conspiracy theory mad dad is adamant it was in inside job from Neill. Despite the fact Neill left before Jennings.

I agree with some posters that possibly Romero’s outburst about ENIC is motivated by nos hope to leave in the Summer but all fans are saying the same things in an even more vociferous way.

These rules apply to all clubs Bill. However, other clubs have been way more efficient at squad building than we have to help them meet these quotas. We always face significant homegrown player issues due to a shortage of qualified, top-level talent that meet UEFA and Premier League criteria. This is largely due to selling, locally trained players like Harry Kane, Harry Winks, and Oliver Skipp without replacing them with players from our academy. This means we struggle to fill the eight required spots for European competitions, which means we have to leave senior, non-homegrown players out of our squad. Connor Gallagher helps but we really need to start seeing our famed academy produce a few first team ready players.

I don’t blame Romero if he wants out. He is absolutely right. The club not only showed a total lack of ambition but couldn’t even take into account that we have 12- 14 players injured . You only have to look at our bench to see what state we are in. And so they are happy to gamble on us scraping together another 4 wins to survive or on our relegation rivals playing even worse than us. So it should be no surprise if both Romero and VDV want out.
And why didn’t we recall both Vuskovic and Moore who have both been in amazing form ?
Never mind- as it says on the website we are the home of the NFL and some great concerts and boxing coming soon…And the new hotel plans are coming along nicely…..we are no longer a football club, we are an events and property development company .

Unpopular opinion but now wasn't the time to invest on our squad. We've a terrible manager who we are clearly set on sacking during the summer at the latest. We've a crazy amount of injuries so we've no clue at all what our best team is once most players get back fit.

To me it makes sense to reset and invest during the Summer when we've figured out what players to build the team around and know who our new manager is.

This season is already a total write off. A champions league run is all we have to enjoy. We aren't getting relegated but we can pretend that's a possibility if it helps motivate you for all the remaining league games. We're an absolute certainty to finish midtable and have nothing to play for the last 6 games of the season. It didn't make sense to panic buy now. It would have just digged this hole even bigger.

I'm not defending our owners. They are useless and prob won't invest in the summer anyway. But for me the summer is the time to go big. But between now and then we need to get some momentum with the young players and see who we can actually build our team around. We need to start the rebuild from scratch again.

At least with no players coming in they finally got the big naming rights deal sorted....didn't they?

If they don't sort it soon, no-one's going to fucking want their name on a stadium so amazing that it seems to raise the opposition's game to the point that the club sit 2nd bottom of the home table.

The stadium is great, it'll be a game changer, it was worth not spending for fuck knows how long improving the squad when we literally could have mixed it amongst the big boys before the money in the game completely exploded.

Any companies have a white elephant in their logo? Might be apt.
