Good coaching gets teams punching above their weight all the time.
Yes but those teams usually have players whose desire and willingness to work hard make up for a lack of talent.

IMHO we have too many average players that lack that backbone required to dig in and work hard when they’re up against it. There’s something far more wrong with this club than just the coaching staff.

How do you explain a veteran like Defoe who has worked with many great coaches during his career, speak so enthusiastically about Justin Cochrane and he comes here and can’t make any impact whatsoever?

We’ve got average players that for whatever reason are in too comfortable an environment and are quite happy to phone in a performance. Do you think Frank is telling these players to cock up even the most basic 5 yard pass?!

I’d like to see what Frank can do with better players before we throw another manager on the scrapheap.

We cant really know, not without first hand knowledge - but for me its all leadership, from top to bottom.

Here are the standards, the expectations, and here are the consequences when they arent met.

We have lacked the latter since forever, for sure (and a fair bit of the former as well).

Perform or dont play, should basically be it - but what managers have actually stood by that?

As I said, the last "more progressive" manager didn't. The one before didn't, nor the one before that or the one before that.
Of our last 5 managers (including the current):

3 defensive coaches
1 pragmatist
1 attacking coach (Trophy won)

———
Historically this club’s positive periods are with progressive managers.

Frank is just not compatible with Spurs, beta male cowardice is not what the fans want nor do we have a record of success with defensive managers to even justify hires like Frank.

Just because Ange didn’t work out doesn’t mean we should have swung back to the other side - his problem was that his peaks could be incredible - but he couldn’t manage the troughs.

Audere-Est-Facere - not boring mid table “stability”.

Why is it that everyone is judging 3 months of football after nigh-on two years of relegation form, with key attacking players missing, and useless ones signed, as being the 'totality' of his style?

He's just signed from a club that sold 2 of their front three like hot-cakes because of how well his attack worked.

He's been given lame ducks here. Of course it hasn't transferred over yet

Because it has been utter shit and it is getting worse rather than better?

:gallashmm:

yet still better than last season.

The "getting worse" is purely a fixture issue, and none of what you've said counters the point that we've had all of Maddison, Kulusevski, and Solanke out injured all season (practically, in dom's case).

Because with a pre season, and half a premier league season we have seen absolutely nothing from him to suggest he even wants the team to attack.

We've seen fear of opposition, not development of our own strengths.

We've seen the most agricultural football, with no sign of any improvement.

His intentions are clearly not to have the ball, not to use the centre of the pitch, not to commit players forward...

All of which is perfectly valid ways to play - its just not Spurs.

I dont believe for a second were we to buy 3 attacking players this window that Frank would suddenly take the handbrake off and have us going at teams.

He has had absolutely zero intent to develop a proper Spurs side.

My answer was a question.

Some may say it was an answer to a rhetorical question.

WE HAVE NO DECENT ATTACKING PLAYERS FIT

how many times does that need to be skimmed over?

We have, fit:
Richarlison, Kolo Muani, Johnson, Kudus, Tel, Odobert and Simmons

Are you genuinely telling me a decent coach couldnt get some sort of tune out of that group? That its just impossibe until we buy more players/get Solanke/Maddison/Kulusevski back?

If so - I fundamentally disagree.

I think a manager with attacking intentions gets a unit out of that lot, sets a system up to get the best out of them - and we offer an actual threat when we play teams. Rather than 0xg.

It might not be prime Barca, it might not be the managers preferred way of playing - compromises are always there - but a proper manager works with what he has and gets the best out of them, while trying to embed the ways of playing in the team they want longer term.

Your answer seems to be, we cant expect anything from the manager because he only has available the Brazilian starting forward, a French international, Dutch international, Ghanaian International and some talented younger players...

As I said - we buy those extra players - you think Franks suddenly going to set us up completely differently? Have us dominating teams? Pushing them back? If you do, good luck to you - but I dont see that at all
