It’s an interesting paradox: the contrast between a front-foot, attack-minded manager and a pragmatic one. When a pragmatic manager loses or the team performs poorly, it always feels worse than it actually is — the football is harder to watch, and the manager’s plan isn’t as easy to see or believe in.

Under Frank, our defeats and poor performances are blown out of proportion for exactly that reason. Fans struggle to connect with what they’re seeing because it’s not the kind of football they ultimately want to watch. On the other hand, a more attacking approach gives people hope — it’s easier to buy into, easier to believe in. That’s why someone like Ange managed to keep a lot of supporters onside well into his second season.

1 point?

Really hope you do our team talks lol

We should be looking for at least 4/5 points here.

At least.
Or maybe it's a recognition of the defiencies of our squad.

We have struggled to create, our attack has been found wanting on many occasions.

We did a good job against ManC.

I am just not placing unrealistic expectations on Frank.

Especially when some fans will be demanding he needs to win the next 3 PL games, then call for his head when they are not met.

As we also have the CL in-between these games, and we have already seen, how the lack of options for rotation is hurting us.

Of course I would like us to get more points, but if we get one, that's fine too given the situation the squad, club, and manager is in.

Just noticed our next PL fixtures are Chelsea (H), United (H), Woolwich (A).

4 points out of that would be good considering how we terribly we do against those 3.

I suspect we might find it easier to play at home vs Chelsea and United than Bournemouth, Wolves, Villa.

They will come out to play a bit more and the crowd won't have the same level of expectations about the result.

I think we can expect this, Frank is a good OOP coach and would be better off sitting back and containing the opposition, would be interesting for sure.

Yeah we have a very good low block under Frank and because of our set peice threat, we always have a chance of scoring even if we aren't the team on top. The games where the other team is trying to hold the ball nearly suits us atm.

It's the games where other teams are letting us have the ball and saying "break us down" that we've looked clueless so far and find ourselves relying on set peices rather than any real open play threat.

I'm assuming we throw the Newcastle game, rotate a little against Copenhagen and avoid any injuries over the international break. If them scenarios don't happen then we'll struggle to get 1 point from them 3 games alright
I don't really want to throw the cup game, it's probably our best chance of silverware this season.

But Levynomics, has left us in such a poor state, I don't think we have much choice.

Just hope Newcastle decide to throw it too.

Given the current scenario in the league, I'd argue the Chelsea game on Saturday is our biggest game of the season so far. They currently look vulnerable and if we can beat them this weekend then we'd be giving ourselves a massive chance of making the top 4 which is 100% Frank's main target this season albeit an ambitious target.

Newcastle away is a rotten draw. Even if we went full strenght we'd still be the underdogs in the tie. We'd be absolutely crazy not to rotate heavily given our current available squad. I'll be very dissapointed if we don't rest atleast 5 players from the team that won yesterday. Personally I'd rest 8 or 9 of them

I wouldn't be grudge Frank if he changed all 11 and players, playing a lot of the youth and those that rarely start.

All, I want for this season is to not finish 17th and lose 22 games.

Our away form has me confident that we'll finish in the top 8 anyway. If we can figure out our home form and approach them games better than we could be genuine dark horses for the top 4. But the next 2 league games will decide that as we're up against the main top 4 rivals at home

If we can address some glaring problems in January, I think we can do better, but then it depends how much damage is done between now and then.

Then of course it's down to what the powers that be, can pull off in the window.

Either way, I think it's going to be a few years, to get a squad with depth required to consistently complete at the top end.

We had one on here last week - "mehstg" or similar - saying absolute min was top 4 this season. I disagree. Frank has to show material progress this season. I would certainly regard Top 8 as that.

Throw the Newcastle game? O points from our next 3 games?

Fucking hell, what a load of pussies.
Agreed. We should go full strength and try and win the Newcastle game.

We can get Europe in the league with this squad I believe irrespective of going full strength in all cups )may not be CL, but Europa or ECL). We aren't winning the league, and we may not get CL, but making sure we get Europe and trying our hardest to win a cup by going full strength should be achievable.
