History has shown us, if you want to actually WIN stuff, you need to play modern, progressive football. In the Premier League era, only Leicester have won a title playing kick and rush - in a season where every major team was performing a rebuild.

Sitting back, defending and hoping to score on set pieces will probably mean you lose less games - but it also means you will draw more games and garner less points - not enough to challenge for a title.

Under Ange, we did see that our best players were good enough; and had they not got injured we were well placed to finish inside the top 4 both seasons. Unfortunately, Spurs 'backup' players weren't anywhere the level of our best 11.

Hopefully Frank is given the players he needs; and isn't expected to play 18-year-olds with no prem experience to play backup to Romero and VDV.

The drop oFf in quality and experience outside the best 11 in Postecoglou's second season was a huge.

The thing is those inexperienced players now have the experience in the league, in domestic Cups and a European win under their belts. Add the recent signings and there is no excuse for Frank to finish below fifth this season (unless he bins the league and wins the Champions League )

The vast majority of teams who win the league are possession heavy because they normally have the best players to do so. It's little to do with style and more to do with the kind of players you have at your disposal. If we had the best players in the league then I'm pretty sure Frank would be willing to set us up in a team that went out and took it to the opposition but that is not the case at Spurs.

Besides all that when you say WIN stuff, you can point to the examples of us, Palace and Newcastle last season playing in a manner of sitting back and containing their opponents, no Unless you think we're gonna win the league or the CL, do you think we are good enough to challenge for the title yet? If yes tell me why? You said yourself that we couldn't sustain or form under Ange when we were in the top 4 because our squad wasn't good enough so I don't understand why you think we are suddenly good enough to win the league despite not having the squad?, sounds like a contradiction to me.

You're painting Frank as a strictly kick and rush and a manager who strictly sets teams up to defend, this is not true. He's altered his style depending on the opposition. He played a heavier possession style in the Championship because they were one of the best teams in the league. Last season they scored 65% of their goals through open play and joint 5th highest scorers in the league - that's a bit more than just relying on set pieces and sitting back and defending...

Maybe just for a second even TRY to look bit further than last season? No?

In every analysis and overview about what Franks approach is like it is mentioned that the way he made his Brendford team to play in Championship (where they were one of the strongest sides) was very different to how his side played once they were promoted to EPL (where they were clearly one of the weakest sides).

So that means that Frank can make his side play in different ways.
And that in turn means that Franks Tottenham 25/26 might play very different kind of football compared to Franks Brendford 24/25. Did you consider that possibility?

I think he/Spurs won the Uefa Cup
I think he didn't.

The EUFA cup in the past was pretty much as hard to win as the old European Cup. One would have Real, the other Barca. One Celtic, the other Rangers. Whoever finished 2nd in Italy, Germany, Portugal. Around the time we won it beating Anderlecht, Forest won the European cup against the mighty Malmö. El Tel's Barca blew it v Steua Bucharest. When we won it previously we met Inter Milan in the semis.

Anyway..

That last iteration of the Europa Cup - there were Spurs fans who booked flights and hotels in Bilbao LAST SEPTEMBER when it was clear it was 90% minnows and we were favourites even then. MU 2nd faves, and they'd kept that clown Ten Hag after the flukiest FA cup win that I can remember, and I've been watching finals since 1967. We lucked out big time with the draw. Bodo in the semis and avoiding MU and Atletic Bilbao. And lucking out that MU beat them too. We couldn't even get the better of fucking Rangers FFS. Far from it, they were the better team that night, no question.

Finally did he win it? Really?

Why do you think his "tactics" were thrown out the window in Europe? Nothing to do with the players declaring UDI and saying this is how we do it boss? I wouldn't out it past Levy to tell him to wise up as the winner would get CL next season.

The route to the final? I'd say Eintracht was the only decent team we faced. The home tie was a really good performance. Only 1-1 but we hit the woodwork 3 times, very unlucky. But every other game was either against minnows or a poor performance.

The final? That's the worst winning match I've seen us play in 60 years. Delighted at the win of course, but it got us out of jail big time. And no way could we use that as a blueprint to beat teams in the PL which is the best measure of how good we are.

The league position tells you how good you are over 9 months. Cups might only tell you how easy a route you have.

top scorers in the Champo 2 seasons running, very easy to check that one if you're in the least savvy

Champo is an effing hard Div to get out of. BFC hadn't been in the top flight since 1946.

He got them up, and playing the right way too. Very fine achievment.

 glorious

Of course he had to go, but winning a trophy is special

History has him down as one of the few managers to lead us to a European trophy.

I doubt all our others weren't won without some luck along the way but, as is the way, all that is forgotten and all that matters is the name next to 'Winners'.

I don't care if we won it while every other team bent over and offered us a moist towelette for after.

We have spent enough money to buy possession based players.
We have chosen different types.
Hard working,and physical.

The post was about his style, he didn't play his usual style in the Europa Cup final.

So his 'style' won absolutely nothing 'BIG TIME'.
It is madness that Spurs fans can listen to player interviews and see behind the scenes footage of our cup run and seriously give Ange no credit.

His 'style' was to get the players believing and working together. They ran through walls for him.

We've played better football under loads of managers and won nothing.

With Thomas, I'm hoping for great football and trophies. That's the dream!

You gotta head over to the Ange thread to see the real madness 😅

Okay then he didn't ditch the usual style of play, nothing changed, it was the team's usual Premier League way of playing.

I think he will finish 5th…

But fully agree that he has to. Especially if we sign a bunch of established players this summer.

If the club deliver the type of window they are flirting with, Frank will be the first manager I can remember where the pressure is really on them to deliver and that’s what you want if you really intend to be a big club that wins things
