the leeds lineup will be interesting, if bentancur starts ill actually start getting worried about frank. this is another game where we should be assertive and looking to get on top of them in midfield.

such a shame because the opening day he put a young midfield out who between them have a nice balance to go at the weaker sides.

hes been dealt a serious bad hand with the forward line, that needs addressing in jan badly. but kudus has been here a couple months now and hes still hogging the ball like some skool kid, thats not top level football at all, should of been stamped out yesterday.

I’m not happy. It’s very bad.

It’s incredible how fearful he is of the simple act of passing itself. In all elements, how fearful our players seem to be of showing for, controlling, and moving off of said passes, the entire art of it is lost on him. He truly plays Big Sam football, it’s bizarre, just hoof it in the mixer and get a fluke goal or deflection. Funny thing is the chaos ball actually produces good chances semi-reliably (see the 2-2 comebacks today and vs Brighton) but it’s a ****ing chore to watch.

The product is just abysmal. And I’m willing to give him time to fix up the defensive fundamentals, because lord knows they needed a complete tear down after Ange… but refusing to play passing football whatsoever is so anti-Spurs it hurts.

But we’re taking our Levy medicine I fear. 5 years of wasted recruitment led us to this exact point. No technical midfielders outside Maddison, no passers, punting £50m on Brennan Johnson whose only purpose is tap-ins while not being able to trap or control a ball whatsoever.

So as much as I’d like to blame Frank and say the “hire a Brentford manager, play Brentford football” phrase the pundits all used for Moyes, his Brentford football might’ve actually been better than ours!

Genuinely I’d take their attack over ours. Mbeumo is Kudus with end product, Wissa is well clear of Richarlison, Schade definitely better than Johnson and Damsgaard tied the entire thing together doing his best Eriksen impression. We truly miss Maddison so badly. My apologies Madders you lovely chav. The only time we’ve played liquid possession football literally since Poch left is when he was running things. Xavi needs to get a proper run of games at the 10, or else…

youve answered yourself, we lack footballers. its why grealish was so important for that left hand side, someone who can hold the ball up and actually keep possession in the final third.

i think we have to start using gray a lot more, hes probably our most comfortable midfielder on the ball in terms of keeping things ticking, PAL is a screener, bentancur is a nothing player who offers absolutely fuck all at this level. gray has to start playing.

If Frank is as bad as you think, I doubt you'll have to wait much longer than midway through next season before he's gone. I think he'll last at least two full seasons though. I could see him doing a decent job for two seasons and then the club deciding they can do better. We'll have to see. Hard to imagine him getting sacked this season though with the start he's had.

Got battered by a team that's Championship level, should have ended 4 or 5-nil but we got massively lucky to get a draw out of it.

But TF goes out and praises the players.

I'm absolutely not TF OUT, but still...fuck right off finding anything positive about last night. He should've given them twats a right bollocking, but to be honest he was as gash as them...horrible tactics, no friggin in-game management, just shouting like a maniac from the sideline and murdering 126 packs of gums.

Sort it out, this ain't Brentford.

As they say, if you can’t be good, be lucky.

Frank has inherited a winning team spirit in the group that refused to lose to Brighton, Wolves and now Bodo.

It’s early so it takes time to get principles coached in and he is getting the luck needed to keep the patience from the fans.

But now he really does need to adapt that midfield experiment, if he starts the fridge brothers or Bergvall in the 10 vs Leeds, he’s just being stubborn.

Who are the fridge brothers?

Bodo aren't Championship level. They are 4 times champions of Norway, Europa League semi finalists (having knocked out Lazio, Olympiacos, Twente) and are ranked 51st in the UEFA rankings (Tottenham are 48th) .

Away from home, on a plastic pitch. 2-2 was an acceptable result for this stage of the competition.

Whilst I appreciate he has made a solid start results wise, and we'd have significant disruption to our attacking players between last season and this (no Kulu, Maddison, Son, Solanke), I am really concerned / disappointed by Frank's risk averse football. Last night he ended up with the correct team and system, but only after we were 2-0 with 20 mins to play. I hope Vinai has a word with him and underlines we need to be more front foot against weaker teams. Otherwise the stadium will be half empty for home games and the rot will set in. What happened after teh games against PSG and Man City at the start of th eseaosn where we at least pressed aggresisvely in a coordinated fashion? Now the defence is in such a low block we're easy to cut through when we press. And when we don't press, we do not have good enough players to build an attack from our low starting point.

I think this will end up being our strongest XI this season, but not sure we'll ever see it as it is too attacking:

Kinsky
Porro -- Romero -- VdV -- Udogie
Palhinha
Bergvall --- Simons
Kudus --- Solanke --- Muani

I'd happily swap Gray or Sarr (or Kulusevski or Maddison) in for Bergvall.

The obvious upgrades remain a CF, a LWF and a DCM who can pass.

...but they're still fishermen, right?

There's a cognitive dissonance between your first sentence and second.

Because Ange did exactly the latter when he came in. I simply couldn't believe my eyes when I watched the football we played in August 2023 after the utter dross our 22/23 campaign had ended with. In one pre-season Ange got us playing daring, front-foot, one touch, attacking football that was thrilling to watch.

We all know it didn't last. But that first 3 months before the catastrophe of the Chelsea game and the injuries we incurred in it was absolutely thrilling and full of fluid attack and intent. All after losing Kane.

And this is where Frank has a terrible uphill battle. Because the crowd took to Ange from Game 1 - that weird almost American baseball chant of "Oohhh Ange Postecoglou..." was imbedded by match day 2. Everyone knew "we were back" - playing "the Tottenham way" (yes a cliche but it felt real at the time).

Crowd hasn't taken to Frank at all. Because why would you when his remit is to make us "safe". So he has to work so much harder than Ange ever did to win the crowd over. To make us believe - while also trying to make us harder to beat because we simply don't have the talent to dominate most other sides.

Already you can see the vultures circling over Frank. Now is the time to back him. Especially if you are one of those who turned on Ange for doing the same thing Frank is trying to do - make the best out of a pretty "meh" squad. You can either do that by going for broke, or by being hard to beat.

Let's give Frank the time he needs and the support he needs.
How much time. It's clear he is out of his depth much like Nuno was. Not saying hes bad but he's not good enough for us and the football is getting progressively worse. Already fearing the Leeds game.

At least 20 games. Im repeating myself butbat his last two clubs no wins for the first 8 games before the teams understood/ clicked and he made them a lot more than the sum of their parts.

We are doing better than i thought results wise so far. Expect performances to improve as the season progresses.

We've only lost one game out of nine. So calling Frank out feels very unreasonable to me.

Yes, the football hasn't been great in the last couple of games. But this is Frank's first job where he is expected to play as many games as he is now. It is a learning experience for him and we are still grinding out wins and not conceding that many goals.

I think Frank is an intelligent, tactically astute manager and we have a lot of very good players. But clearly something is not clicking right now and I’m hoping it’s just time they all need to crack it. But I won’t give Frank too much time, I need to see clear improvement every game in, everyone is payed a lot of money and this is the big time, let’s get it working, fellas!
