This coming run of games will test him greatly. His set up just doesn't give me confidence of scoring at all without set pieces. People keep telling me he's a genius in tactics. Sorry I just couldn't see it as much as I tried. Palhinha-Bentancur together broke all logic of that. I'm like a broken record of this issue but because the only games I found enjoyable was when the two of them were not playing together.

As of now, we are boring as fuck.

Really needs to reconsider his midfield setup and personnel, that Bentancur-Palhinha duo in particular.

We're effectively playing a back 3, with Bentancur never abandoning his place between centre backs in possession.Palhinha is as risk averse by nature, but he shouldn't be in a role where he is asked to take a lot of risks anyway. He is not that kind of a player.

Simons being a complete passanger either on the left or in the centre is not his fault obviously, but leads to a nonexistent midfield regardless.

Hence a team quite dull to watch, extremely reliant on one player to make something out of nothing, and trying to squeeze every drop with set pieces, throw ins and such.
Midfield was not the issue.

Come on people, please.

It's a lack of effectiveness in the final third.

None of this is tricky.

Very straight forward.

I'm not sure if he's interested in having a creative midfield. Seems like our way of playing relies more on using the width.

Never doubt the XG trend!

He needs to work something out because playing like this is never sustainable and weer always riding our luck.

Thankfully RKM is back and Solanke should return so that will help us.

We will see What Frank is really about over the next month or so, some toughh games approaching for sure!

But alot of this is down to our set up where we have 2 DM's out of the game. Sarr or Bergval would link the midfield alot better in home games beside just Palhinha or Bentancur. Playing them both at home every game is just so passive.

The only home win we've had in the league this season came when we actually left Palhinha and Bentancur on the bench and had the midfield push up behind the attack. The Palhina/Bentancur combo works perfect away from home where its ok to sit back and soak up pressure. But when you are trying to dominate a game and put a team away it doesn't work. You are just letting the away team grow into the game

That would be the lack of effective attacking players we have.

He's done a great job of compensating for that with set-pieces.

Why is this hard to get for some on here????

We're missing key components of quality to make our final third play dangerous/effective/lethal.

It's not some major conundrum.

you can move the ball up the field a thousand ways, but if you're only half-cocked in the final third you ain't gonna fire properly.

RKM's second cameo was even worse than his first cameo! I'm not as excited by his presence as others but hopefully he comes good and proves me wrong. 2 shocking cameos though my word

It all good talking a good game about tactics etc but if we don't see it on the pitch then none of it matters.

The only problem today was out inability to be effective in the final third.

You're position is a non-starter.

That wasn't the problem today.

Also, Bents scored our first goal.

What I will say is that Frank should have brought Kolo on instead of richie; that was an error.

Richie needs to go in January and not be played again.

Total waste of time.

By now he just seems to me like Big Sam 2.0. A good defense, clueless in other areas and playing like he's trying to avoid relegation. Side note, Big Sam is better with his subs.

The standards are a lot higher than Brentford. Losing at home to anyone is unacceptable, especially when you throw away a one goal lead. This idea that us finishing midtable is a good improvement on last season is such a rubbish metric to be using too. We finished 5th the year before under Ange. That should be our base level and anything under top 6/7 will be a failure this season. If Frank thinks its ok to finish midtable then he can fuck off

2 points from 9 is it?

Was kinda coming the way we play. Long throws, long balls, double defensive pivot

We have a realy nasty tough run now coming up. He either comes out of this period looking really good or things could start getting restless come fulham at home

Definitely needs another 2 AMBITIOUS transfer windows to completely enhance the midfield and forward line.

Richarlison, Johnson, bentancur, bissouma should be shipped out ASAP while they still have value for a start

Got outmanoeuvred by the far braver Emery and if he want to persist with that thoroughly uninspiring and ineffective Palhinha-Bentancur double pivot, then he’ll have to bear the consequences of it.

Have no clue why those 2 have become undroppable under him; we’ve been playing much worse since.

He could switch to an actual back 3 then, giving Porro and Udogie/Spence free rein to bomb forward.

At the moment it's an extremely barren back 6 plus a powder puff front 4. The latter is hardly his fault, but he can take steps to actually address the former.

I think our style of play should actually suit the harder fixtures. It was the opposite issue under Ange where we'd naively go all out attack against better teams.

I actually think Frank will weather the next few games and grind out some results. But the problem will keep coming back to us being unable to win "easier" fixtures because we just can't pin teams back and dominate them under Frank.

Jury is out on Frank of course.

For me he needs to ditch the Bentancur Palhinha CM. It's far too pedestrian.

Palhinha is better so he needs to play, and then we need a Sarr or Lucas in there.

I just think he is making some poor selection decisions so far.

That said, with the injuries we have had, Frank is a bit limited with our attack and what he can do.

He needs time, but he needs to sort our home form out. Today was garbage.
