You can post all the maps and charts you want.

If we had a proper LWr, CF and other players back, we'd have won today.

There's no need to overthink it.

It's obvious and crystal clear.

I'm not going to pretend that's not the case and he should be working more miracles than he already has in making us the joint third highest goalscorers with Richie, Johnson, Tel, Odobert.

And two points off second place.

Like, what are we even doing here???

All of a sudden the expectation and demands on management are quadruple-fold what they have been, when he's missing essential players that the last fella had, who finished 17th.

What are we actually doing here, people???

Normally I question the selection of palhinha and bentancur at home but today I can see why he did it. Villa are a fucking huge team. He needed that physicality in midfield.

Can’t pick ofobert and tel at home though. Men v boys.

The way we play, overall, will flow a lot better with better quality and more intelligent footballers at the cutting edge, who will make better runs off the ball and look to create space in more intelligent ways.

We can definitely play better when we have more experienced players up front but Kudus and Simons are quality players and we aren't putting them in positions to help them be their best either.
I'm also allowing Frank time to figure out what works and what doesn't whilst he gets to know how the players perform and respond in heat of battle more and more.

Agree. Definitely give him more time, even if we both know that 2 more performances like that and we will be in a minority.

The way we played in the first two phases didn't cost us this game, today.

It just didn't.

I fully disagree and I feel like you are swerving my question mate. Do you see any problem with our approach to build up in CM? Would you continue playing JP and RB together? Would you play them together in home games?

A Bentancur-Palhinha duo could work technically, if Bentancur was as attacking minded as he was during his Conte days that is.

This stuff where he tries to outdo Palhinha as another half back is nonsense, and is completely irrelevant to the current state of our dire frontline.

But none whatsoever of those muscles and bullies that you got from the Newcastle midfield. A more energetic Sarr or even Bergvall over Bentancur may give us quicker passes to work around their midfield instead of being matching up to them man to man.

And more importantly we are at home..... Rather we do quick fire attack and score goals then shut up shop.

Works absolutely fine when we don't want the ball (PSG/City...Brighton was our best performance this season) it's when we need to take the game to the opps it's a total dead end.

I did wonder that second half.

I think the team has more problems than we realise.

He has never looked like that footballer again mate. That's the worry especially when you consider the injuries to Maddison and Kulusevski.. we need better NOW because we can't pin our hopes on those two returning perfect. I think we need to buy a Valverde or whoever the next best available CM and Id look for a playmaker Stiller even though I worry about his physicality.

I saw Villa crowd us out in the middle, so we tried to get wide. Odobert had chances in first and got past his man, Kudus did second half. Don’t think Porro or Spence helped our wingers at all today.

Agree- Spence only tried to take it wide to the endline one time all game by my count. Porro's overlap game in general is weak and he prefers to sit back and hit crosses from deep. There is a lot of room for improvement between the both of them. I backed Udogie to start at LB for this game, and it appears he ought to have. The only quality cross I saw from Spence all game ironically enough came from him being in a right side position thanks to some weird dead ball setup. There's a lot for Frank to think about in there, and I thoroughly recommend he do so.

Not surprised he didn't start Kolo and was right not to start Richie who came on and made things even worse for us up there, adding nothing whatsoever.

So his scope is very restricted.

We need to accept the reality of the situation.

It's shit.

But will hopefully become less shit when Solanke and Kulu come back.

And Vinai and the gang need to help Frank out and not leave him short.

Big test for them coming up.

I wondered this pre game as well but Bentancur gave us ZERO physicality in MF today. Bergvall and Gray are both physically bigger and stronger than Bentancur. Bergvall is levels more aggressive to match the likes of McGinn and Onana (I've seen him flatten Joelinton). Sarr is our most physical midfielder with the sheer running he gets through.

Pre-game I thought I'd persuaded myself there was an excuse to play them together again but it was Bournemouth all over again and we are going to see this happen pretty much every time they play together.

I’d love to know why we can’t ever sustain attacks , he came talking about how we are going to press high and being intensity and we are lucky to see 2 shots a half . This isn’t football our fans are going to able to get behind , same as mourinho , Nuno . I wouid accept it if we were a good counter attacking team like we were for 6 months under conte but honestly this is the worst version of Jose ball

You can play who you want with the pool of players we have in MF and each brings its own problem:

- Sarr can be hit or miss, generally
- Lucas can be ill disciplined and rash and careless

It's a red herring for me.

It needs a rebuild, as I've said before.

I wanted Bents sold and upgraded upon.

But he scored the opening goal today and wasn't the reason why we lost.

That pairing was not the tipping point.

Critical factor was our lack of lethality where it counts.

I'd love to know what he's actually saying to dumbasses like Richarlison because the dude comes in and does the same shite every single time.

Chases shadows, falls over a bit and 'riles up the opposition'

It's laughable to think that what Frank is telling him makes any difference whatsoever.
Richy has nothing behind the eyes.

I also thought it was completely pointless trying to give him instructions.

Maybe when Solanke the target man comes back we'll hoof it up much more, using him in a role similar to how Palace use Mateta in launching their attacks.

That way we would be able to bypass the midfield area altogether as well: No more endless sideways passing inside our own half, or losing the ball trying to play out from the back.
