There are bods here who get hard ons whenever they mention Glasner and Iraola

Iraola pretty much lost his first 10 matches; and Glasner ditto the first 10 of last season

They just didnt want Frank in the first place and use every poor result with which to stick the knife in

Also ignoring that he's having to start some matches with Tel and Odobert. Lost count of the number of open goals Tel's missed so far.

Bingo.

It’s so early in the season and Frank’s tenure that a few good wins and he looks fantastic, or a few losses and it’s a mini crisis. I wanted Glasner (Iraola second choice) but Frank is a decent manager and deserves the season. I will judge him more on how we look with our attackers back.

It's exactly for some players too.

Knives out already.

It’s the same when some people say Ange had a shit squad so we can’t judge him and now apparently they are all world class and Frank is holding us back!
Like I have said before , I do have some reservations about Frank but it’s still to early to Judge him , we need to just back him again in the next 2 windows and stick with it or we just end up back at square 1 again

Brentford finished 10th mate. Frank's many years of hard graft with prime Wissa, Toney and Mbuemo and you say we can't be expected to play like that. They finished 10th.

I'd love for Frank to do well but people have to stop making things up about how good his record is. His actual managerial record is pretty shit, doesn't mean he won't be a decent manager and won't do well with us.
A good manager would have won the league at Brentford :frankfacepalm:

We would have a much better chance anyway.
If we had all our best players available he can decide on the best team and play it together regularly and also bring in the younger lads in a more helpful way.
I think he has a really tough job trying to navigate through our fixture list without key players.
What key players... Madders isn't some sort of saviour... and most of
It's not the same group of players though, is it? Son is gone, Kulusevski, Maddison and Solanke are crocked. That's around 50 G/A we've lost along with most of our attacking quality. Aside from Kudus we are picking from attacking players that would struggle to get a game for Fulham, any manager would struggle to create an effective attack with the current options we have (that does not mean this is the best we should expect from Frank).

That said we could end the day in joint 2nd place, so maybe some perspective is in order? What more do you expect from a team that has to play Odobert and Tel in the starting XI?
So 60m Simons would struggle to get a game for Fulham

You know the answer to this, you just don't like the players ... Solanke, Deki, Maddison. Romero has the famous "no time frame" for his return so he is out for a while you can be sure. You can say they are not key players but Romero misses the Villa game and we lose.

I am not as all in as some others on Thomas Frank (but calling for his head is ludicrous). I do think the club has sent him to a gunfight with a pen knife and I don't think it is controversial to say the football side of the club is badly run given the resources we have and the results (not just trophies and points but style of play).

Yes? Have you watched him play this season? The fee is not relevant. He has been feeble so far. He lost his place to Bergvall in our last game FFS.

Our attacking options so far are extremely poor, either unproven youngsters or a clapped out Richarlison. It’s always going to be tough to play effective attacking football with such options.

Great post.

Bored of the lack of patience of some posters (mainly Ange fan bois).

Frank starts slowly at all his clubs. He gets at least a full season no matter what some clown says on here.

I have watched him play this season. Ive also watched him play for RB and the Dutch and he looked brilliant. Why cant Frank get that sort of form out of him? There is a player in there but we are not getting to see it.

Small sample size theatre but 💯 matches the eye test. The instructions are clearly to not pass through the middle of the pitch

Not sure. Making the pass through the lines requires the receiver to be in sufficient space to receive it and do something with it. That in turn requires other players to play their part in movement, creating space etc. It's not just a pass but part of a pattern of play.

Thus the 'chart' is also comparing the style of one manager in his second season with the style of a new manager early in his first season. Two different styles. We know that Ange, not unlike Ossie Ardiles, developed attacking patterns at the expense of defence, set pieces, etc. That's how we ended up 17th in the league last season while scoring the 7th highest number of goals.

Frank is doing something quite different in a development plan he has made quite explicit. Deal with defence first, plus other 'easy' gains, set pieces, long throws, etc. He's also encouraging selective pressing, flank play and crosses, though these involves combination play, which takes time to develop – we can see this, though far from perfect (yet), is already in process.

Whether he's discouraging playing through the middle is an interesting question. I suspect he's developing the patterns in this regard, but this kind of play is at an early stage and will take the most time.

I saw somewhere that Frank is comparable to Poch at this stage in his first season. Arguably Poch inherited a stronger squad, but I recall he didn't get going properly until maybe two-thirds of the way through the season. I suspect Frank will be the same.

That's when we'll see a different kind of football and different kinds of 'chart'.
